This one was Canada, as it happens, but in the US it is a sickness that I don't think they will ever cure. I have had angry debates with lots of Americans, and people who are balanced and sensible about everything else lose all reason when it comes to gun control. The answer is screaming at them but they won't see it.
I see an 11 year old boy shot dead an 8 year old girl with his father's shotgun because she wouldn't show him her new puppy...crazy shit
U.S. gun control. now there's an oxymoron.
and moron is a synonym for NRA

America is a total fruitcake of a country
I was in Chicago a few year back doing the usual touristy stuff
At one of the attractions I asked a police officer " where's the nearest gun shop"
Without questioning me he just directed me to the nearest one
I was just wanted to go and hold a gun as I never did before and was a little curious
So walked in
Had a good look, held a few and the guy behind the counter did all in his power to sell me one. All I needed was photo ID.
He even offered to post it home for me
Anyways
The whole situation was like buying a sliced pan
Way too easy

So, that's it? Acceptable loss? The parent's fault? Sad but lets move on?
Comparing gun control to vehicular manslaughter is not a very fair comparison, but if you wish to do so lets try:
You can, and it will soon become the car's fault. It is going to happen that cars will be fitted with alcohol detection systems, such that the car is immobilised and will not start if the driver is intoxicated. Driver-less cars are here now too and will become the norm in the coming decades.
How to stop a person driving drunk? Engineer in and mandate controls that stop the car from being driven when the driver is intoxicated. Or remove the driver from responsibility during operation of the car. These are technically possible and will happen. This is a real possibility to reduce drunk driver murders down to ~0.
How to stop a person from shooting a gun at the "wrong person"? Introduce some test for mental health, or stupidity - though I find these will be difficult for most guns to do "on-the-fly" (sarcasm). Another option is to remove high risk guns from circulation. People will always be stupid and mentally ill. People will always get irrationally angry and act impulsively on emotional response. Very, very difficult to design a gun that will compensate for that. Or a human that won't have these flaws.
Best to try and do some sane and reasonable measure to stop nutjobs letting fly with automatic weapons in a cinema or a school. If he had a hunting knife, or a bolt action rifle, would his civil liberties be in any way impeded? He'd still be able to hunt and defend himself, he just couldn't kill 25-50 people in a matter of seconds.

On one note I like the idea of an intelligent population posing the threat of an armed revolution against the government. It'd be oh so nice if the people government were living in constant fear of their citizens.
"When government fears the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny."
~Thomas Jefferson
On the other hand though, that doesn't really work in practice given them in the wrong people's hands and well.... you know how that turns out.
gun lobby is to rich and powerful so I dont think they will ever control it in US and its getting near as bad here with the gangs
I love my guns. Best part of returning stateside is kissing and cleaning and reloading each beaut. Not everyone should have one though, and despite owning a hunting license since I was 16, I feel stricter background checks need to be carried out. I bought my first before I could drive yet had to come home to Ireland (of all places) to get on the Pill.

What if "It's Raining Men" and 'Let the bodies hit the floor' are both about the same event but from different perspectives 🤔
In this particular case yes , very clearly it was the boys' parents fault -- it was their gun the kid used ?
I would hold his parents just as responsible for this tragedy as the law is holding the 11 year old boy responsible .
And that goes for any shooting case , for any shooting accident committed by a minor : jail for the guardian .

This matter -- in my opinion -- is much more serious than to toy with sarcasm .
Getting into car makes and models and the future of automobiles !! Tzk .
In my opinion no civilised society should allow assault weapons into its citizens hands . Period .
In my opinion an assault rifle is acceptable only on the battlefield or in the hands of law enforcement. .
No exceptions !
On the other hand , I also do own a gun. A snub-nose two and a half inch barrel 5 round .38 revolver.
I like having it , I own it for personal protection , I occasionally go to the shooting range to practice , and it is never
far from my side when I'm at home . My neighborhood knows I own a gun , I'm very comfortable with it .
And guess what ? The friendly neighborhood burglar will likely target a home where there is No known gun in the house
: A shotgun is also an effective home intruder deterrent : have you ever heard a 12 gauge being cocked !?*
That intruder will be turning on his heels in a mighty rush to get the heck away from your home -- lest it's personal
business he has with you .
Hunting rifles are a survival necessity for large swaths of American society . Large parts of Midwest , Northwest ,
Alaska , Louisiana , Florida , etc. people depend on their hunting to eat . Period .
But even they don't use assault weapons .
I think what's going on back home is a disgrace and a tragedy all in one .
Why oh why would a city dwelling civilian person ever need to own an assault rifle / automatic weapon !?
(Then again , in knowledgable hands , a semi automatic pistol can be converted into full auto in less than 5 mins )
They should be outlawed out and done with . Offer a reward for each one turned in . A high reward .
Would get some guns off the streets --- except the guns in the hands of criminals .
And then , so , what have we achieved ? Perhaps hope that they will just be killing each other and not target schools ?
It's a mess .
When I bought my own gun some 20 years ago , they have just introduced the Brady Bill (I think Clinton pushed it
through ?) . It required a five day waiting period , so they could do background checks etc.
But there are Loopholes !!! This debate has been going on for years !!! --- anyone can go to a Gunshow and
purchase -- for cash -- any weapon on sale . And many times that includes ridiculous weaponry that no sane civilian
person should ever need nor want imo .
These are the areas that should need fixing !
Further : if anyone is even just caught with an assault rifle / automatic weapon in possession , it should mean
mandatory immediate jail time. First offence , off you go . But of course that would just play into the hands of the
illegal weapons dealers hands : higher profit etc . So many angles , so many stumbling blocks to a coherent and
effective legislation.... but , ...
But wait ! There already WAS a Federal Assault Weapons Ban !! Bush allowed it to lapse in 2004 .
End of story :
Would need to reinstate the Federal AWB (assault weapons ban) asap ,
and do more thorough background checks on all .
: But you cannot take the (reasonable) guns away from law abiding citizens .
I do what I want. I cannot do otherwise.
