Biometrics SetUp at each border crossing , takes but a second to scan .

Actually we never got away from the op. Some of us use examples to illustrate the problems with security. In answer to your question, as I have said earlier, I have no idea how to stop it. And I am not alone. None of the top intelligence services, or military know how to stop it either.As has been very evident for a very long time.

Again, I never said that, I said the only people who will use that will be people who are law abiding in the first place, others will find ways to circumvent it. I am happy to present my id when asked, I've been to the states and done the whole retina and fingerprint scan. Terrorists will never volunteer to do that no much we would like them to.

The whole concept of the european union is to have free open borders for easy of transport and trade purposes. Bringing back thorough checks at all borders is a step back in my opinion.

If the EU borders can be so easily breached as it had been this past summer and even now going into winter , why ??

Hungary was left on its own to defend the Schengen border , and heavily criticised for the necessary measures it took .

Why not have biometrics ?

Just as in U.S. -- you provide the required paperwork , you can get a Frequent Bordercrosser ID .

Then you can be just waved right through .

Useful for truckers or legal migrant workers , frequent travellers .

I don't think the free and open borders concept meant no id checks were to be carried out.And I agree with steph that this has to be tightened up, I'm just not sure how effective it will be.

I agree with you in part, But you talk as if the terrorists are going to walk up and submit to an iris scan. They won't though, will they? They will easily find a way around it.As they always do.It will only slow them down for a very short time.

Just did a quick google and in 2012 it was found that it was possible to replicate an eye that in 80% of tests fooled the scanner . Nothing is unhackable it seems.

To be honest I don't even see it slow them down,it means they travel by other means that's it.
