No offense but your examples there are silly. Sex outside of marriage ISN'T outlawed neither is self castration. If laws like that came in or other similar stupid laws then I'd quickly find a new country to live in.
If you DECIDE to live in a country then you have to adhere to the governing laws. That's the contract you have as a citizen with the government. It makes perfect sense. You can of course choose to break the law which is totally fine as long as you understand you're breaking the law and are willing to pay the fine if caught.

I never understand this view. There are plenty of "laws" out there that should never have been made law in the 1st place. Just to take an example, if all sex outside marriage was outlawed, would you obey that just because it's a "law"? Or an even more ridiculous example, if it was made law that you had to castrate yourself, would you be okay with that? "Laws" are only good in so far as they benefit people, this one benefits no one.

Anyway me... I'll have no problem breaking it when it comes into effect. It's accomplished jack shit thus far in the North anyway.

Usually there is a 6 month wait after proposal before a law is enforced I think.

I'm more referring to those that blindly accept that just because something is "law" then they have to adhere to it. The two examples are ridiculous, but they illustrate that point.

Anyway... I've no interest in another back and forth on this law as it's been done to death here, the excitement of planning a punt later awaits.

"New draft legislation on sexual offences which will criminalise those who purchase sex has been approved by the Cabinet.

Minister for Justice Frances Fitzgerald brought the proposed law to the meeting on Wednesday.

The proposed legislation aims to provide greater protections for children from sexual exploitation and updates the law in the area of grooming. While it proposes to criminalise the purchase of sex, it is understood that it will not decriminalise soliciting in public, or sex work in brothels.

The Bill will also contain new and strengthened offences to tackle child pornography.

It provides for a judge at sentencing to include a period of prohibition preventing sex offenders from working with children and vulnerable people. It strengthens the post-release supervision regime and the monitoring of sex offenders.

The Bill also introduces a new harassment order.

These orders may be imposed on people convicted of sexual offences, “prohibiting that person from doing certain specified things which may cause fear, distress or alarm to the victim or his or her family or friends”.

The Bill also corrects an anomaly in law by providing for the alignment of the penalties for an offence committed by either a man or women in cases of incest.

The age of consent will remain at 17 in the Bill.

The heads of the Bill were published in November. The Criminal Law (Sexual Offences) Bill is expected to be published on Thursday."
