I've said for many months now, that the way forward is to make escorts buy a licence to work in Ireland, much needed revenue for the government, easier to police for the Gardai.

A number of escorts have told me they like the system as it is now. It is not “illegal” but still not “legalised”.

One in particular who had worked in a number of “legal” systems in Australia, New Zealand and Europe, had complained “legalised” systems are intrusive for both client and escort.

Of course, “legalisation” would help control the free for all that exists at the moment and limit and control the numbers of escorts. Some escorts would prefer this.

Legalisation may require escorts to work out of “licensed, approved” premises. You could well imagine the situation with this.

I am for decriiminalisation not legalisation. Personally I would only work with a license if I could use my working name and protect my real identity. I don't think you should have to pay for a license, as that would make it impossible for those that turn to sex work for financial support. I certainly couldn't have managed to pay for a license when I first started, unless they give you a time frame in which to pay. I would like to see an adaption of the New Zealand law that protects sex workers and gives them rights, without being too intrusive.

It's probably worth pointing out, for absolute clarity, that the website is a piss-take.
