    Default Visually impaired\Blind clients

I had a phone call today which I am 90% certain was a wind up but am open to my being wrong so am asking advice.

A man phoned he sounded fine until he asked me to discribe myself.
I told him my descriptkon is on all my ads so really did not feel the need.
That is when he claimed to be blind and couldnt read too much.
I stayed polite and told him I have a client who is registered blind and has an adapted computer and he can read everything.
Caller said he had nothing like that.
He was not offensive in anyway but surely a blind petson is given equipment and he managed to see my phone number.
I call wind up merchant any one know better?

    Hello xsierrax

    Thank you for your reply.
Seems strange that a blind person would have no computer aids of any kind which is what he claimed.
I think I will be ignoring his call tomorrow, he said he would ring to book maybe he wont bother and was just trying for a freebie chat, wonderful what some will try.
He could of course be genuine but he does not ring true to me that he could see my phone number only.

I agree it sounds like a wind up. I've met deaf and blind guys before now and they have had technology to help them with things like this. He should be able to read or listen to something to get the information. Otherwise he is not blind or not registered blind, so should have the same chance to see your pics as most.

I guess the text to speech etc could talk the text part such as height, hair colour, size, eye colour , but obviously not the pictures. Imagine trying to visualise a girl from the text part. I'd love to know if she has a pert bum, saucer nipples, bushy eyebrows, buck teeth, cross eyed, freckles, roman nose, short hair, chubby cheeks, dimples, protruding navel, etc.....qualities that can only be ascertained from pictures.

Even though, cynics may suggest that it doesn't matter if you're visually impaired, it's very important as if one of your senses are impaired the others, such as touch, become more sensitive to compensate to a certain degree.

You are probably right about the wind up, but you gotta give the benefit of the doubt just in case, if the guy sounds genuine anyway.

I think the point is that he didn't sound genuine. A few years ago I had a guy book me who said he was deaf. I had no problem with that, although I had very little experience. When he turned up he said he said at the door he was deaf and I simply said, 'I know' as he had told me and then he said he had made a mistake and ran off.

For over a year after that I refused to see anyone with a disability, because I blamed myself. I thought maybe I had spoken out of turn or said it in a way that sounded condescending and then I heard through the grapevine that there was a guy going around pretending to be deaf and doing exactly what he did to me.

I was so angry, because It had stopped me seeing other people and I doubted myself and I didn't want to upset anyone, or make them feel belittled.

Since then I have been a lot more cautious with the booking and how I take it and if they say they are deaf I ask them to call me and say hello and hang up. That way I get to hear their voice and know they are a male and not some prank and how they sound.

The best policy is to treat everyone the same and no exceptions. From the experience I have had disabled people don't want to be treated differently anyway.

Doesn't the text talk say what is written? ie, curvaceous blonde, with deep green eyes and curves to die for would be said if that is written?

I agree, you should treat disabled people like everyone one else, and like the rest of us, some are nice and some are not.

I reckon girls on EI get all sorts of unsavoury, waste of time, calls that means you have your antennas up for the time wasters....and rightly so. However, I would hope that you would be able to identify a genuine disabled guy that finally summoned up the courage to make that call. Not you personally, but all the girls here.

Hi Costa Nostra I do not have many photos published so other then saying my height and dress size he was not missing any information that anyone else has.
I did tell him those details so he was on an equal footing and told him that too.
    He never called back

Mac has built-in text to speech and a variety of arguably better text to speech clients on the Mac App Store. Microsoft and Google also have experimental software to describe images so I'd say this is a wind up or a chancer.
