Putin' s main thing is to maintain his power in Russia by appearing as a strong leader, standing up to the foreigners and maintaining Russian pride for ordinary Russians.
The actions of dictatorial leaders like Putin are as much and more so for the consumption of their own people as outsiders.

That's true but the Russians have always loved a strong leader, one who asserts the dominance of Mother Russia and it is domance, Putin won't start WW3 but with some of the candidates running for US president can you blame him? At least half of these lads believe in the end of days
