No need to worry, it's perfectly safe once its designed properly.
I hope your right about it not being thrown up quick and cheep
I hate when there is a freak occurrences like this and every one start looking around for someone else to blame instead of takeing some personal responsibility.
I kinda know that wood is used internally but just never thought something hanging off a building that is exposed to the elements would be made of wood. Then again I havent really gave it much thought before.
Yeah I hate people shirking their responsibilities especially when its something so personal & tragic as this

It's reported in the papers that experts have pointed out dry rot & that charges could be pressed. This will be of no comfort to those families who've lost loved ones, dry rot should've been discovered during maintenance checks but in the article it states that the management company hadn't been addressing or fixing maintenance issues.

Once again, it looks like a case of profits before people's safety.

In memory of an awesome woman Laura Lee RIP
It's so difficult to articulate just how much she meant. Inspirational, brave and irreplaceable - our hero.
Please do what you can for her daughter. Deeply appreciated.

The media get to make money from these events. Don't be too quick to believe anything they say
    on any subject.

They may tell the truth about the date of the bulletin.

Terrible tragedy. My sympathies to all involved. You never know what is waiting around the corner good or bad.

Heartbreaking. In seconds life can be changed utterly changed. May they rest in peace. Its a burden that will be so hard to carry for most of the families.

"I was a J-1 visa student in California over forty years ago. Tens of thousands of Irish J-1 students have spent happy summers there over the years since. By far the vast majority have been a credit to Ireland and only the very tiniest minority have not."

Sad sad tragedy, I had J-1 visa too, I know what does that mean, but coming to such conclusion what NY times "journalist" did is just disgusting, disgrace

Hope those who are still in critical condition will recover soon.
    Good bye Ireland!

But everything can fail. Probably corrosion in the reinforcing metalwork.

    Terrible tragedy.
One look at Priory hall is enough. Building regulations is one thing, those regulations being followed in another. timber is not a suitable material for having on a small balcony holding thirteen people unless its pitch pine which is almost unbreakable and unrottable.

Saving money maybe. It wasnt meant to hold a load of people. They would have gotten away with it under normal circumstances. You dont have thirteen people living in an apt for a start.

The Irish Ambassador to America was also on the case yesterday

For anyone that didn't see the article in question here it is ( http://www.nytimes.com/2015/06/17/us...dead.html?_r=0 ), they have been inundated with complaints from Irish and Irish Americans about the article.
