For the great Gaels of Ireland
Are the men that God made mad,
For all their wars are merry,
And all their songs are sad.

Never had a problem with it.

    It was of its time.

Anyone under 30 has probably never heard of it.

Should make you appreciate living in modern times.

Where you all have it so hard (yeah right).

OMG that's a blast from the past
Can't say I enjoyed PEIG, it was just part of the curriculum and you did it.
Good on ya Taylor. Still able to 'Leabhart an cupla focal'
Once my leaving was over my irish went the same way(shame really)
but the way the language was taught was all wrong. We weren't taught to speak Irish
just memorise phrases and prose. So for most of my era Irish was a chore.
    Just my opinion

It was the times we were living in . Just last week I saw on some channel one of the last blasket survivors he's a doctor in America . I love history and am well versed in my local history I met people who had met people who were born in the late 1700s it's scary but true and I'm not old not 50 yet. I'd say peig was just an early celeb of time and she took advantage

Never read the english translation. Apparently she was a character and the book was edited down to make her seem more miserable. The first line about having one foot in the grave was a bit much considering she lived for20 years after it was writer.

Tóraíocht Dhiarmada agus Gráinne was a bit mad though

The image doesn't bother me. Never did the book. Had a sensible teacher who picked 3 different novels/ short story collections from a choice of 14/15 on the curriculum, at the start of fifth year. So not everybody in Ireland has done Peig because if you had a sensible teacher like mine then you got to read different novels. Lazy teacher did Peig because they had being doing it for years and didn't want to change.

the most useless waste of time that could have been spent on another more useful subject. should be part of an arts course (uni degree) as one of the other mostly useless modules they do in arts degrees maybe but not taught in schools.
