Although!... I hate to be negative/cynical, but I'm forced to ask the question is she successfully going to get funding to take the case all the way to Strasbourg if need be? And when would a verdict be known on this? The court system is abhorrently slow. It could take a whole decade to play out, particularly if it goes all the way to Strasbourg.

Nonetheless, it's definitely nice that well informed people are speaking out against this stupidity. The government has zero business interfering in the bedroom, not to mention, the government in Northern Ireland would be a lot better off trying to close that unbelievably massive deficit they have at the moment.

Part of the article I noticed:

I wasn't aware of that, it kind of makes life pretty damn difficult for the authorities if they ever try and police something like this.
The difficulty in getting evidence (the bar is higher in The UK and Ireland than in Sweden to gain a conviction) and the sheer daftness of trying to enforce laws relating to consenting adults engaging in private is probably in part why The PSNI and The French Police (and Ministers for Justice, the French one is now PM) did not support it and it certainly didn't get a ringing endorsement from our own lazy pigz (who are among the most avid of clients, although of course this law will never be enforced against them under Omerta/classist rules)!
Rem many 'brothel' cases before the courts are already thrown out or judges are lenient, though not always!
If there is any justice in the world Laura will win her case, the grounds are obvious!
This case also highlights the madness of a country going bull thick to bring in these laws, when they are on notice it will be challenged up to the highest level and to the last and there will only be one outcome!
    Ride them on the beaches!

I work in the legal profession, and have worked in the political side of it too, so I can understand the spin that's being put on this.
Northern Ireland is a very small community, yet a very important one politically, for a variety of reasons. The main reason that this crazy piece of so called legislation is being introduced is primarily because it's an election year, and the powers that be need to be seen to be proactive. It's pure smoke and mirrors, and the amount of prosecutions taken by the CPS every year will be minimal, I'd nearly guarantee it. It's a pathetic attempt at vote garnering... They have to be seen to be doing something and this is one of the most newsworthy, yet least damaging ways for them to do this...

Will it pan out the same in The Republic?
While you certainly have great qualifications and experience in the area, I feel there is more to it than just redneck politicians pandering to a few loons in the electorate! It's much more sinister!

will Laura Lees actions slow down the application of the law? For instance, will the forces be obliged to wait until after the courts reach a decision or will the law be applied before and during her legal process? what happens while a law is being contested?

The South is just as bad. Just read the last two paragraphs of this article. While she just about criticises the proposed law, the assumption is that all sex workers need to be rescued. And the ordinary citizens are almost rabid on the subject.
