I bought a new phone and sim in a Vodafone store 4 months ago. No ID asked for so I didn't volunteer it. It was closing time so I reckon the assistant just didn't bother looking for it.

If you go into a phone network store you will be asked for your name for a sim card or phone. In this case just give a fake name.

I am assuming that people here would you use a pay as go sim card for calling and texting here. Using bill pay would be

completely stupid. Bill pay is easier to track than pay as you go. I know this from experience.

I,ts pay as go so no name required, if you want to stay Anonymous, it,s the only way to go

#really_facepalm there's more people buying drugs & more criminals operating than girls selling sex. There's rarely a day goes by without someone being attacked/murdered without taking into effect how much is spent on drugs. Gardaí/Police numbers are being cut left right & centre, there's bigger crimes out there being committed on a daily basis.

We should also get this law in perspective, in recent weeks, we've had guys panicking that by accessing this website, being a member of this site & leaving reviews they will be open to prosecution. TORL will be rubbing their hands & laughing til they drop, you are playing right into their hands.

When this law comes into effect in the North, watch & see what happens & what changes. I bet very little will happen or change. This law has been in Sweden for several years, the number of girls working has increased since it was implemented. That's a true, verified statistic.

At this stage, I wouldn't be surprised if the the new law gets swallowed up in the upcoming election and forgotten about for another few years.

Even if this does come to pass, it is very easy to get sims and phones through the likes of ebay . In fact it might be a service that someone here might start providing. Where is the likes of yamser when you need something shady done?

Am I right saying that from some date in the near future the roaming charges will be withdrawn? Anyone Polish SIM card, lads?

Phones are definitely more vulnerable to the authorities listening in and getting your identity from a number. A few laws later shoehorned through the parliament and it can be done. But with how slow they are to do anything, that'll take ages. It's not something to worry about... yet anyway.
On the other hand, the internet based services would be much too difficult for the authorities to go after.
If you take a service like skype as an example, yes there's information stored on a server somewhere about you, but it shouldn't be your identity if you're prudent enough not to use your real name or upload an actual photo of yourself there.

The only thing then that can really be gotten from that information that can lead back to your identity is your IP address. Assuming they can get the IP address (they can't because the servers are hosted in a different country) things become very messy for the authorities now, they have to legally force your internet service provider to cough up your details such as name and address etc.

In the copyright related struggle of the Movie Studios and Record labels Vs Internet Downloading, they've tried this all over the world but they've had little success in doing so thus far. The usage of Tor or another proxy then completely gets around this as the IP they'll get is Tor's not yours.

NSA had claimed already about a year ago, they are able to pinpoint you geografically, but you'd need to use the same conf in the same place for something like a month. I never really checked that info, so let's be cautious about it. Unless you use CISCO router LOL

And even in the event that the authorities here went after services like skype with the purpose of busting or harassing escorts and their clients, there's a whole massive load of legal framework that would have to be drawn up and passed by the government. Not to mention international agreements would be have to signed up since the servers for all these web based services are not hosted here in Ireland.
If they started now, they might get to it in 10 years time. In short, forget about it, there are several elections between now and then, and more than likely an economic disaster much worse than 2008 again too.

You mean in this post? I don't see any histeria, TBH. Just everyday life we go about because we are taking for granted, that our gov's should stand by ourselves. Unfortunately not everyone knows that stupid Tesco Clubcard is not to benefit you, as a client, but their owners - that amount of data they have on me is just scary. Just an example.

Well, I am not trying to say visiting myself or any of my collegues will be that bad. We take cash and usually don't store your numbers. Or don't text.
