It's actually brilliant, you can read what you want from it,It is one of Eastwood's best.
It shows the hero most American people want but if you watch it properly it shows what war does to the man in his personal life,to say it is propaganda is misleading but as I said the movie is what you want to take from it.

"The price soldiers pay for their service"

And not only him , but the foot soldiers : his little brother with hollow empty eyes ; disillusioned and angry .

    Some damaged beyond redemption.

Agreed,it would have been so easy, especially for an American audience,to make it a movie about how great war is and how the hero troops lead great lives afterward,it was thought provoking and even showed some scenes from the injured and how they have to try and rebuild their lives,I was very impressed.

I didnt say you couldnt. But saying 'it is a good film' is just an opinion, not fact.

But war is not great !

A movie as you describe above would be blasphemy and a farce ! In this day and age with instant info access and

frontline footage , war is not great. Never was . Remember the US disillusionment once the Nam field film reports

started to dominate evening news on TV.

War is ugly and painful and an obscenity -- regardless who's who and why.

And there's always a price to pay on each side.

    Great movie imo ,

but prob take a certain level of emotional intelligence / human insight (sensitivity ?) , to appreciate the 'message'.

: as you said , each will take from it what suits their own soul .

So just because some dont agree with your opinion of the film they may not have emotional intelligence/human insight! To appreciate the message you & others who agree with you do. Thats hilarious

Jeez if only I could be as smart as you. I can but dream!

Good enough movie but Oscar material!!! I dont think so and I am of a similar stance with Foxcatcher which I found a little more disturbing.

See , it's what you bring to and take away from a movie , or from a post :

Imo it requires a certain level of insight to take away 'the message' -- any message.

That message will depend on one's sensibilities and lean.

: Each will see in it as their own soul fits.

Those wanting to see propaganda or insult , will find it even if it's not intended from the other side
