I have a fair idea where their attentions are not going to be as they will be under resourced and under funded

Who has ye all wound up about this. Where did this theory that the guards are only interested in optics.
This isnt a new fad, all they have done is moved resources together from functions that used to be seperate into one group which should be more efficient and successful. Again we should be all happy on such a move if the greater good is achieved.
Or were the guards behind the JFK assasination plot.[/QUOTE]

It`s highly likely that this new unit will be under resourced, but if that is the case aren`t the garda more likely to go for the, as you put it "optics" cases as a means to highten their profile to secure extra resources.
Either way, it does not take from the fact that as you stated in an earlier post the Garda solely on the basis of reasonable suspicion can now under this new law detain and arrrest a punter.

The only way fines as regards this new law can be imposed are through the courts.

I think energy would be better spent on working on how to be more discreet and go about your business without a phone stuck to your face and repeating every word/direction you are given.

I'm afraid I for one will put the phone down on anyone who repeats a direction and not answer it again.

For some reason many men don't seem to be able to stand still or sit in their car and take direction. They have to walk and cross roads and go to the place while this is done and it's so bloody obvious.

Most phones have a notepad facility on them. If you are worried you will forget something, write it down after the call and then you can look at your phone, without having it to your ear. If you can use some kind of short hand or code, so again the info is not too indiscreet.

Just don't make it too easy, don't stand out.

Uglymugs linked to news article on Swedish cops in Malmo complaining about their laws making it impossible to crackdown. criminalising the punter is a lot harder than giving a public disorder fine i.e. soliciting

Just bear in mind that we might have a new government this time next year or anything could happen they could go to the people over the summer as they are scared about the protesters

And with extremist Clerics saying that Ireland is a possible target for terror attacks I hope the law will get their priorities in the correct order. Outrageous to book a peaceful 60 year old punter on his quiet monthly outing while more sinister and fiendish terrorists go unchecked

You seem set in your view which your entitled to but i do think you are thinking way to much about punters importantance, why is it that besides a paragraph in a local news paper you think that someone in court will bring any attention unless its someone famous.

I do need to repeat however as i have already said it but this is NOT part of the new law and has always been there. Gardai havent targeted escorts in any large scale in the past only some local issues and nearly all as part of efforts to close brothels, why now would they target punters.

In my experience a lot of phones stuck to ears, which makes a punter stand, out is due to the escorts.
Many of the escorts use apartments that require a key code entry to the building, and will not give this code until you are standing at the entry door to the apartments.
If Garda are observing a premises, standing with the phone to your ear at the main entrance is the most likely to get their attention.

I`m not set in my view as to who this new law is aimed at, nor have i heard any arguements how to avoid being prosecuted if accussed under it other than the deny deny one, which imo simply will not work.
As to your other points. How many punters do you belive will not give a toss about their details being published in a paragraph in their local paper for a court appearance under a charge of purchasing sex ?
    Very few I`d imagine.
As to "why now would they target punters". Well, the government are bring forward a law aimed specifically aimed at punters.
With the time and effort that has gone into this new law, plus the establihment of a garda unit part of who`s remit is to enforce this new law, I`d be very wary that their is not a determination to enforce it.
