As to the courts deciding who is guilty, if it comes down to a garda`s word against your`s in a prosecution taken by the state, do you really in all respect believe that the court will except your word over a garda`s?

It will not be a crime to visit a masseuse. the crime is paying for sex. apprehending me leaving a masseuse's apartment will not get the police anywhere. The police cannot give evidence against me because they were not privy to any crime taking place. It is nonsense to say that anyone would be convicted by a court on the basis of a policeman saying that he suspected that I had paid for sex. If I say that all I paid for was a massage and that was all I received, that is the end of the story unless the police can produce real evidence to the contrary.

As I have said before it will be easy enough for the police to catch a few plonkers who will ring up a fake advert number and ask if the girl will do anal for €50 whence they will be directed to an address which turns out to be the local nick where they will be collared along with the phone that made the call.

I suspect that the new law will certainly wipe out streetwalking. It will be very easy for the police to catch punters that way.

Laws are put in place to act as a deterrent, the drink driving law is not about catching people but about deterring them from committing the crime.
This new law won't stop everyone from visiting escorts but I feel it will deter the majority inc. myself. All this talk about proof and evidence doesn't matter to the average punter, the fact that upon leaving an escort you can be detained under the suspicion of committing a crime will be enough. For all we know you could be held for 24 hrs without charge, try explaining that to your wife or boss (luv lunch time visits).
I see a massive reduction in those using this fine service and it is sad that the govt feel they need to legislate against this. Obviously there are problems at one end of the scale which need to be addressed but this shouldn't be a one fix sorts all issue.

I sincerely wish you the best ofluck with that, but with the announcement of a dedicated garda unit to enforce this law when it comes into force, I don`t believe I`m giving them too much credit. Seriously looks as if they mean business.

There seem to be a lot of bravado or just wishful thinking on here as to what this new law will mean, and people need to take a step back and really familarise themselves as to who it is aimed at. It`s aimed at the punter, not the escorts where prosecutions are concerned.
Prosecutions will be based solely on the word of the gardai on suspicion there was sexual favours bought. They will simply observe an address, stop and take the names of those leaving and summon all on the same day for the same court sitting. It will then be up to each to prove they were there for reasons other that charged, same as applies to after hours drinking. If the masseuse`s turns up to give evidence that a massage was all she provided, there would be a chance of getting off, but realistically what are the chances of an escort turning up in court fot that?

Lady advertises that she has paintings or drawings to sell . I call to her place pick out one of her Drawings. The drawings are of different sexual acts and priced accordingly. I pick one and pay her the appropriate price. Shes delighted that I have purchased her art work and discusses it in more detail with me. She finds she likes me and asks me if Id like to act out the scene in her bedroom.
We engage in an intimate act as two consenting adult. When were finished I take the art work I've bought and leave.

    Have I broken any laws.

They do have people in court and get convictions. Same will apply for this law for those unfortunate enough to get caught

I leave a ladys apartment with a rolled up painting under my arm. A garda stops me and asks me what I was doing in this apartment. I show him my purchase and tell him this was the reason for my visit.

    What law have I broken.

That's fine, no issue there. The problem would be if you had sex and paid for it though.
