I'll just call my Solicitor and have him meet us there so we can get his dealt with as quickly as possible.

We wouldn't want there to be any misunderstandings now, would we?"

Escalate the thing as soon as possible!! Bringing a solicitor in shows how serious you are.

Think about it. They cannot possibly prove you paid for sex unless they were in the room with you, can they??

Your Solicitors first questions will be: Why are you detaining my Client? Are you charging him with any crime and if so, what evidence do you have??

Granted things most likely won't go so smoothly, but you shouldn't put yourself in a position where they can put pressure on you to admit to their version of events.

How much would your solicitor charge you to meet you at the Garda station, and stay for an hour
    or two? $$$

Won't work like that as we know that most guys shit themselves when a Guard approaches them.

I think the simple answer is that they can't. They honestly don't have the powers to do so in the case of the way a vist to an independent escort works. I mean they'd really have to forcefully break into the apartment/hotel room while you're in the middle of the act to prove the client did go there for sex, that's not something they have the power to do without a warrant.

And then... how do they prove money actually changed hands? Are they honestly going to dust the place for fingerprints just to prove money changed hands? How else could they prove it?

Even if you're to think about the methods of contacting a lady - Phones don't have to be registered here in Ireland (yet anyway), you can buy them over the counter with no ID at all, and top them up using cash. In countries like Norway you need a passport to buy a phone so your identity can be linked with the number, but even then there are simple ways around it like the use of email and services like skype.

The more I think about this stupid law, the less I worry about it.

And... in the event the government un-bankrupts itself and we can actually afford a massive, intrusive and likely illegal Gardai campaign to police all of us here (highly unlikely), I'll up and leave this country and take my tax Euros with me. I ain't going to stand for the government thinking it can interfere with my sex life.

The fact that she advertises as an Escort is neither here nor there as I have never paid her for sexual services and unless you can prove otherwise you can feck off back to the privacy of your car with your Bum-Chum there and wank yourselves silly."

"Oh by the way, could I please have your name and Serial Number in case I wish to take this matter further?"
Say something like this to a Garda, and there goes any chance one would have had of said Garda taking a relaxed approach to the situation.

In such situations, one would do better to exercise the right to remain silent
    Odds against you?

Yes, Just a bit of humour to lighten the mood. I fear some people are getting overly worried about how this law will be enforced. Without any evidence to go on I think the only way to get a prosecution will be to try these sort of scare tactics and get people to incriminate themselves through fear.

I just think guys need to be able to stand up for themselves if they find themselves in such a situation.

I fail to see how this law can work if the escorts advertise as ‘escort services or massage only’. How could they prove that you had sex or that you had paid for it?

I cannot see that the police would bother setting up an undercover policewoman as an escort like they might as a street girl. That said, I think that a lot of prior discussion with a new escort about ‘favourites’ on offer might be risky.

My understanding is that the police, in general, have been very satisfied with the current situation. They know that there are always going to be prostitutes and clients and the current situation is relatively drugs/underage/trafficking/gangster/violence free. At least that was my understanding but this may have changed under the new female commissioner. I see that she made a speech where she seemed to subscribe to the trafficking nonsense which does not bode well.

I believe that if this new law comes in it will be very bad news for both the police force and all of us here. The problem that I see is not in the police trying to enforce the unenforceable but in the potential to encourage corruption in the police. I can see a lot of temptation for police to do a little extra work outside well know escort haunts. How much would it be worth to have some policeman with a badge forget that he apprehended you coming out of a certain well-known escort’s apartment? How much would you pay to make it go away? The law may be unenforceable but most guys will pay well not to be the guinea pig in proving this.

What about when the police ask you the name, age and nationality of the person you met and how, where and when you got to know them first?

Presumably they would ask the escort the same questions, so you'd better have shared some personal information and concocted the same story in advance.
