Magpies nest in tall trees in nests that are literally shotgun-proof. It is an elaborate affair, (I have seen a few close up, after trees were blown down) consisting of large intertwinned sticks lined with moss. I have never seen them use other birds nests.
They are scavengers and will eat anything, from scraps of human food, young birds, birds eggs, worms, grubs etc. They will raid a henhouse, if they can get in.

Bird stories do happen , and it's a wonderful state of soul when one notices such humble events :
Your mocking guest , my Limpy grey , etc. xxx
*you're growing up xx it's wonderful to see x
I do what I want. I cannot do otherwise.
What we did when we found their nest was shoot BB cartridges into it to destroy them. it was the only way, they are a well built nest and are very hard to destroy.
Now before people go mad here, magpie,s are one of the most, if not the most destructive birds here.
You want to see them in action when they find a bird nest in the hedges, a whole troop of them will attack it with venom and will not stop until they have taken all the chicks, that,s why when u have a lot of magpie,s around u will have no small birds.
