Government price controls never work. They always cause more harm than good.

I personally would rather push the responsibility back on the person. For example - health problems relating to excess alcohol consumption? No health insurance, private or public. Leave the market set the price of alcohol, as it should be.

An alcoholic would suffer under such a regime?

It's more about govt attitude and interference than the price or quality of the wine, but if the lowest price increases then the prices of all wines likely to increase.

$10 minimum hit for liquor. Specialist cabs/vans with sick bays to transport them home.

Well that's kind of the point, if you're an alcoholic then it's your fault, not anyone else's, you should be the one to suffer.

To be honest, my alcohol consumption is pretty low so it doesn't matter all that much to me. It's just annoying to see the government getting in the way of things again, and it's only worse that's getting.

It is ones responsibility. Society is about everyone? I don't consume liquor myself.

Sinn fein had better watch out

Raises in my mind serious questions as to whether any politicians have the ability to carry out their duties. But we voted for them.
