    Brilliant !!

when Queen Elizabeth took King Abdullah for a drive in her Land Rover !!!

King Abdullah being (now ex) absolute ruler of Saudi Arabia , where women even in this day and age are

prohibited from driving. xx can just imagine the squirming lol ! Both literal and figurative !

It's pretty clear that the saudis know that michelle is really a man, and so "he" doesn't need to wear a headscarf. Because he is a he. I mean she is a he. Or is he a she?

We becry that 'they' come to our countries and don't respect our culture.

How then do we get to go to 'their' countries and not pay the most basic respect ?

Should we be tippy toeing around Muslim cultures , or just be 'ourselves' ?

When I travel the world , I make it my business to know local customs , and respect them !

Cover up , not wear pants , wear a headscarf if needed. Have a chaperone if must.

    Mrs. Obama -- ??

It being politics , it is not by accident or coincidence. Sending a message ?

    xx
I don't think this applies when it comes to politics or atleast there are laxed etiquette norms, for example I don't see EU politicians kissing say the italian leader, I don't see Western politicians constantly bowing while greeting Japanese counter parts or addressing an audience.

    Thumbs down

Sorry folks, a bit slow here on the topic.... But there is many reasons, why I don't fancy Obamas, now I have one more to add.

Mrs Obama went to (I deliberately omit the country's name here) foreigner country as an official. Not average Mrs Smith. She's the First Lady, she's a subject to Diplomatic Law, FFS!
Scowling??? She was rude as f@. If she was to make a statement, she has, indeed - statement of ignorance and arrogance. Soooo.... American, with all due respect here to some, who happened to be as well, born in the USA.
If Obama wasn't in agreement with whatever is going on in the host country, she should never be there. Her sour face, even displayed all over the world in the news, won't change a thing. We have here not only money talking, but also customs and laws written zillion years before Obamas and the like left the bush.

If Mr. xagerate wishes to visit places, it is good enough if he follows local ordinary customs. If he chooses not to, it's his own risk. Sometimes it is a cold treatment from locals, but in some places he might get a bit more direct message. Not that I am in a favour of some islamic fashion trends. But TBH I feel slightly uncomfortable in summer myself, when most young men deciding to show off their upper bodies in the sunlight on the streets of Belfast, or Derry. The same applies to shoppers in pj's in any supermarket. I moved on with trackies day or night, somehow.

However, if Mr xagerate would like to visit a place as a journalist or political activist, that will change the whole perspective again. No point mixing our love/hate relationship to burqas with Mrs. Obama's behaviour. It was farcical.

    Sorry, peeps, rant over.

Letting her husband and her country down. In a position such as hers , there's no room for a scowl !

She wore a headscarf in Indonesia , wore a head cover to the Vatican , what now ?

Walking in Tehran -- Single White Blonde Female .... covered or not. Gambler much ? xxx

(Though Tehran not nearly as bad as some other places x)

** maybe Obama been saving his virility for an affaire ? Instead of showing some ooomphf in world politics ?

    Me bad x
George W. Bush showed too much oomph in world politics and not much substance or diplomacy behind it.

Obama is now largely hamstrung by rightwing Republicans hellbent on opposition for the sake of opposition and regaining power by any means possible.

And message to the Tea party

    It's no longer 1783.

    Sorry for not double spacing.

Interesting though , that it seems verbatim to your link. Hm. NY Times and CNN piggybacking ?

"As images of President Obama and the first lady, Michelle Obama, with the new Saudi leader, King Salman, circulated online after their brief visit to Riyadh on Tuesday, commentators, observers watching from afar, seized on the fact that Mrs. Obama had not covered her hair during the audience with the new monarch."

"Reports that some Saudi bloggers had expressed anger at the first lady’s supposed show of defiance — in refusing to honor the Saudi custom that compels women in the conservative kingdom to wear headscarves or full-body cloaks — were followed by a chorus of online praise for Mrs. Obama. They were joined even by one of the president’s most avid critics, Senator Ted Cruz, the Texas Republican who perhaps hopes to succeed him."

I still don't get it though : if it's accepted protocol for US women (First Ladies , politicians) to not cover up , what's the

    hoopla about Mrs. Obama ?

Good Link , yours : worth looking at comments. Seems storm in a teacup.
It is internal U.S. tit for tat politics (Rep v Demo sniping and vice-versa)

Or journalists trying conjure up a story/controversy.

(Btw , of course I am absolutely pro woman and anti discrimination !! )
I might become a regular mass goer again (after a lapse of 3 decades) if there were enough women in bikinis in the congregation.
