I read the letter that lady sent into the Indo about how shit her life was and how she hated the thought of somebody standing over her grave saying: "Wasn't she great at paying her taxes".

It got me thinking, none of us are going to be old men saying to ourselves: "How glad I am I never missed a day of work", but I bet loads of us will think "I wish I'd had more sex" when we're on our last legs.

I wonder though, despite the fact that I have some amazing sexual experiences thanks to the ladies on this website, will I feel it doesn't really count because I had to pay for it?

My attitude has always been it would be better if it was free as at least then you know it is mutual, but at the same time you pay for the good experience and a good memory. Granted the same connection will never be there as with a girl you lock eyes with across a room but they are still your memories. You enjoyed the meeting? So enjoy recalling it.

The analogies are piling up here. So far I've had eating an apple I bought versus stealing it, cooking a fry myself versus going to the local café, painting my own house versus paying somebody else to paint it and, now, getting laid on holiday.

None of them, in my opinion, are an accurate comparison.

Chatting up a girl, buying her a drink, paying for a taxi home and then getting laid is evidently not the same thing as paying an escort for sex. The logical conclusion is that I should expect sex every time I buy a girl a drink - and she should feel obliged to provide it. Bullshit.

I get lucky on a night out: maybe she thinks I'm cute, maybe she thinks I'm good company, maybe she likes the fact that I'm generous enough to buy her a couple of drinks and pay her taxi fare home, maybe the booze had loosened her inhibitions and made me seem sexier than I am. Maybe, maybe, maybe. Either way, she could have gone off with another bloke in the club, or nobody at all. Something about me was attractive/interesting enough for her to want to shag me. And the crucial thing here is that word "want".

It's happened to me. But not very frequently. Which is why, as I get older and the chances of that happening get more and more unlikely, I have ended up paying for the type of sex I fantasise about but cannot see me ever being able to enjoy without money exchaning hands.
