I think catriona meant to record that there was a meeting, they were listened to, but the minister was not immediately on their side.

That's not surprising. If I was a minister meeting pro and anti pressure groups, on any subject, I would want to ask BOTH sides difficult questions. I would not want to come across as sold from the get-go.

She likely went ahead with the meeting so she could cross it off as having given sex workers a voice, but they may as well have been mute if she isn't listening.

That's something worth putting in any letter penned for the journalists you thought about writing to, as it shows a lack of knowledge about similar issues in our nearest neighbouring country.

The problem with it being accepted in the North is that she will use that as an excuse why we need it too (Or else we will see tabloid headlines about how the "Republic has become a haven for sleazy men looking for paid sex and to prey on trafficked women")

To put out such a press release is misleading imo. It makes it appear as if F. F. was a reasonable person who has listened to

and weighed the differing opinions , those including the opinions of active sex workers.

But that is not so , is it ?

Would have it not been possible to put forth a more accurate description of the events ? xx

We discussed long and hard about the listening. We didn't want to admit that she wasn't on her side and didn't care as TORL would have a field day with that. We needed TORL to know that we did meet with her and think she took in our considerations. She was interested in the research we had and did seem concerned about support services still being available because in Sweden if you want to get free condoms from the prostitution units you have to say you want to exit.
