What are the Swedish police saying here, that they only stake out apartments where they've been tipped off that the escort has been trafficked?
This video says it all really, concerned citizen warns police of someone in a poor situation...someone in need of 'rescuing' but do they? Do the irish people want the gardai and PSNI to be pissing around like these punks or do they want them to be doing proper police work?
I watched that video all the way through. At no point did the Police officers? mention contacting the girl and offering to assist her. If fact at the end of the video, having established that she was indeed selling sex, they were prepared to allow other clients visit her so that they could arrest them when they came out.
They had no interest in helping this girl which was the whole point of the tip off at the top of the video.

The police in this video efectively waited outside for a woman who they had reason to believe was trafficked to be persistently raped in the interest of collecting easy fines off so called punters! This is the reality of such a law is policed, the Government becomes the biggest pimp of all, punters pick up nominal fines (even those who know they are dealing with a trafficked/coerced woman!) and sex workers suffer beyond measure!
No punter will die directly because of this law (it may be a contributory factor in suicides!), but it is quite likely, a sex worker will!
Where will Ruhama/Denise Charlton/Frances Fitzgerald or even Lord Morrow be then?

Agreed, pretty messed up. It makes the police look like nothing but legal pimps.I've recently finished reading the Melissa Gira Grant book 'Playing the Whore' and what really struck me was the opening of the book where she exposes the vicarious moralising associated with watching shows where these types of police 'busts' are made and recorded for the TV masses. Over the last few days with all the posts relating to the Swedish model and what's happening up the North I've been wondering how long before this kind of thing is common place on RTE.
Very twisted.

Yup. I'd hope that the situation would unfold more like your post where you postulate that they'll just make a few examples, but realistically I think this stuff makes for much too exciting 'Cops' type shows, where the masses eagerly watch the special task team kick in the doors and all the while they never have to look any deeper at the real concerns. Once the masses are hooked there's no turning back, it's easy answers courtesy of the 42" screen hanging on your wall.
Perfect for basking in one's own moral righteousness, the next best thing to Sunday church.
Jerry Springer anyone?
