How welcome/appropriate is it to phone an escort for a brief chst in order to ascertain how comfortable you might feel in actually meeting them? Naturally, I'm not suggesting a 30 min chat which invades personal or working time.

I don't like to have long conversations on the telephone with people I haven't met before generally. It's the hallmark of a timewaster too, so to be avoided. Perhaps send a text outlining your wish to speak first to the lady.
