They have just driven it further underground and the wives and girlfriends (where applicable)you speak of will still have the same scenarios with their men looking elsewhere..............they will just have to dig deeper to see how they have adapted to any new law trying to interfere.

This was a talking point in work today. Most people thought that the majority of prostitutes in the country were trafficked in, hence they were in favour of this bill. When I pointed out this article to them:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-29697037

they disregarded it, saying "Of course she'd say something like that."

I suspect this is how the majority of people in this country think. Combine that with the politicians in Stormont, and we've very little chance.
    We live always underground
It's going to be so quiet in here tonight
A thousand islands in the sea
    It's a shame

I beg to differ, ireland is NOT a backward country (whatever that means), it is one of the most free and tolerant countries on earth.

You will find that prostitution is at best "frowned upon" and at worst criminalised for both parties in most of the civilised world.

Prostitution is actually a big deal and we on this site need to realise that, decisions made by government reflect public opinion good or bad. The public is particularly poorly informed about the subject with one side of the debate basically lying through their teeth while the other side is keeping its head down. This is the nub of the problem.

    I agree
Every TV documentary is focused on the seedy side of the business
The Pimps , the agencies , the girls moved around from Apt to Apt.
Foreign girls brought in to work in knowingly etc.
No point denying it happens we all know it does
It's about time they made a documentary from the truly independent Escort and
    normal Clients point of view.
However the need for discretion and privacy makes this unlikely to happen.
I am who I am and I am happy with who I am.

Exactly, but what I'd like to know is how they intend to police the situation? If it is legal for the ladies to sell their services and I meet one of these ladies in the comfort of her apartment what are they going to do? Would they get a warrant and enter the apartment and arrest me or would the wait until I was leaving? How would they prove I actually paid for sex? How would the prove I paid for anything?

They won't be making sex illegal only the payment for it! This will not be like a drugs deal where the drugs themselves are illegal and go a long way as evidence go support a conviction. Also in drugs deal both parties face prosecution unlike here where only the person doing the purchasing will face prosecution.

how could they prove that the reviews were genuine ?
Theres always some silly law like willingly knowing engaging with prostitutes or something similiar..like being in a stolen car if you dont know its stolen when you get a lift in it with your mates but your still been prosecuted.they will find a way

Are you ok with the gardi arresting you and your name being publicised? That is the bigger fear, for most punters, they can't allow their families, friends or employers to find out what they are doing.Even if the charges are dropped or they are acquitted, they will be the butt of the local gossips.
