But didn't the EU recently start including the 'estimated' profits from the sex industry and from crime in their calculations of every member states GDP(Gross Domestic Product)
So in a way Ireland has already recognised the contribution the sex industry has made to the country's recovery
    Just saying
Nice point, Johnsmith69, Now Lets go to the Appropriate Government Minister and ask him to make a Statement admitting this Fact, You Organise it and I am sure you would get Support From Ruhama and TORL for a March on Leinster House to Challenge the appropriate Minister. Hmm

The UK did recently admit to estimated figures from drugs & the sex industry & the contribution they thought these figures made to the economy.

Sex workers do make a hefty contribution to the economy of the country they are working in.

If the sex trade in Ireland is decriminalised it will wipeout most escorts because if they have to pay taxes they simply won't survive here and what about charging VAT on the essential services

All revenues help an economy to recover when they are in deep recession. A packet of bubble gum would go a long way now. Taking money away from people doesnt unless you believe all the Irish Water lovers on here.

It will wipe out little. It will always be around. The black market will always be around and will always survive one way or another.

Of course these "foreign girls" send money home. Be that to save, pay a mortgage over seas or support people.

But working and living (even if temporarily) in a country means investing and giving back to it's economy. Whether you're utilising the services of western union, banking in AIB or hiding cash under your mattress.

It's not only via paying taxes in a country that a person helps support an economy.

These "foreign girls" still rent apartments, hotels, use transport, eat at local restaurants, support small businesses like salons etc.

Pretty sure I read that somewhere. Obviously it's only an estimate but it's great to see sex work being legitimised and de stigmatised even in such a small accidental way
Tell me about it. I spend a small fortune on fuel in the Republic and in the North. I reckon I'll be spending a small fortune on water rates soon too. I can just see them now bringing their rubber ducks with them and asking for the hairdryer. Which also means the laundry bill is going to get higher with 90% washes to get all those stains out lol.

Diesel or Petrol Katie, You can claim Vat back on the Diesel, Keep your receipts if applicable.

They should be introducing water rates on fuel, alot of contaminated fuel around at present .

Urgh, are you saying that you can't claim back on petrol? Fuel is fuel isn't it? I go by the 45p in the mile method on my claims, as it works out very nicely. Especially when you considered I've already driven over 1300 miles since September. No wonder my poor little car got possessed!

The oldest profession known too man and we still can't make our minds up to legalise it,? Escorts contribute a great deal to the economy as some of you have pointed out already as well as a small fortune from me supporting them, some small hotel's are reliant on this income I'm sure and small tenant's! If this was any other profession they would be shouting there praises from the roof tops
