Just to let you know Carlos I had absolutely no intention of messing up your thread here .................. I disagree with the concept of "community moderators" and just wanted to voice my opinion on the matter giving my reasons for opposing the idea.

However when one of the nominees knowingly breaks the Cardianl Rule of no real names being posted (twice!!) and Patricia blatantly not punishing the nominee in question in an attempt to biasedly keep a bad idea (in my opinion) afloat then I had no other choice but to vent my disgust both here and through Pm's.

I gave my honest opinion (as I am entitled to do ........ I think??) that I believed two of the nominees obviously couldn't be a "community moderator" and one of them proved my point by breaking the one rule that Patricia had always been strict about with no grey areas ............... to make it even worse Patricia actually attempted to justify his behaviour????

That is how/why your thread ended up going off the rails ................. blame your fellow nominee and blame Patricia's response.

No problem bigpaws.......I don't see you as messing up my thread. For once we are actually having an important debate on this website which might just matter to more than a handful of people, so the views of as many members as possible are to be welcomed.

After weeks of rather inane, if humerous activity in the Soap-Opera Section, it is nice to see that the activity has moved back to more bread and butter material in this part of the site.

Personally, I'm neutral on this whole issue....but when it was brought up in the chat room and I was asked if I would organise the poll, I immediately agreed. I had initially excluded myself from nomination to avoid a possible conflict of interest, but Patricia cracked her whip and declared that my nomination was in order.....so now I'm starting to enjoy a good debate and am happy to let the membership decide the issue.

So it's votes that count now.

Mainly in response to Carlos...

I like the idea of community mods beause I could use the help and who better to help mod than people who know and use this site?

I think we now need to publish a new clearer and more extensive set of rules and after that I would welcome community mods, with limited powers. Not community mods with the power to ban people, I think that would be a step too far, but community mods with some powers, like for example the ability to edit a post to remove someone's real name if they are the first to see it. I would still see myself as the one to be holding the whip but I think community mods could be a good added extra. Essentially, we can only try it out, but I am very prepared to give this idea a try.

I'm not a fan of censorship at all, but there are a few things which are totally unacceptable. Beyond that, I'd never personally want to ban anyone, but I also try to listen to the community and when several people contact me and say they've been offended or upset by someone, I pay attention and I may take action.

Lately things have been difficult and I feel it has been a lose - lose situation for me whatever I do.

I mean, take Liz for example... There was a thread of people wanting her banned and everyone seemed to want her banned and I even asked is there anyone who doesn't want her banned, and not one soul posted, so I was left feeling like I was literally the only one who didn't feel she should be banned at this stage. Then, a few weeks later, I got a few complaints about her PM'd to me and I went and looked at what people were complaining about and could see their point, so I decided to send her on a weeks holiday. Then, out of nowhere, comes an army of Liz fans saying I was wrong to ban her... Where were these people prior to this???

It's not an easy job modding these boards sometimes I can tell you!

Regards the Hilton baby, I wasn't greatly offended by the baby either. However I got a few complaints from people who were greatly offended by it, and I decided to accept that the baby could be considered offensive and ban it. I took banning the baby more lightly than I'd normally take banning as it was just one of many of someone's duplicate ids.

More than anything, what I'd like to change here now is that I'd like the place to be more fun. There are too many haters here right now.

You are wrong in your decision and it is blatantly obvious to those people who are truly unbiased in their views.

I would have even welcomed a "token" punishment, it's often been your solution on here anyway and at least it sends a message ................. but your total lack of action in this case is a disgrace and I think you realise that but are maybe afraid to now "lose face" so to speak which is a terrible trait in any moderator.

You are wrong, you should rectify your mistake in this case ................ even the offender himself has posted several times agreeing with punishment for offenders of this particular rule break and, to his credit, he included himself as deserving to be banned.
