As I see it, listen to what you need, yet just about enough so as not to suffer selective hearing.
As for IQ level, it's a limited indicator, what about creativity, imagination, insight, life experience, is it ever wrong to question in the right way ?
Makes one wonder, which is more, to be smart or intelligent, perhaps persistence and belief is of greater value.

I'd settle for a spelling test, the level of literacy amongst posters with English as their native tongue is appalling.
