It's the difference between a day labourer or a tradesman or an Artist
Prostitute , Escort , Courtesan ..
All three above would be engaging in prostitution , but that's where the similarities end.
Though I am currently in 'entertaining' , I would defo find 'prostitute' offensive.
I wouldn't refer to any sex worker as a prostitute unless they have specifically expressed their notion for such ,
and proclaimed themselves to
be a prostitute. (There're a few on these boards).
Imo doing something and
being something are two entirely different things.
Think of it : you go out fishing on the lake every so often. Are you a
fisherman ? The question is identity. xx
Imo girls coming into this field for a short time ( pay college fees , make a nest egg , pay for family emergency , etc. ) ,
just by the act of engaging in prostitution , I would not lower them to the station of a
'prostitute'.
They are schoolgirls , Moms , wives whose household has fallen apart due to economic hardship , they might be
women with a sick child or with ailing parents . They might be young girls dreaming of a better life , perhaps trying to
escape hardships at home .. Would I call them 'prostitutes' ? Nope. Not as long as they intend to exit this life , not
as long as they hold onto the real person that they are , and they do not allow this life to swallow them up.
In my mind a prostitute is one who has decided (or had the decision made for her/him) to be a lifelong sex worker .
And even that is neither here nor there.
But I don't like the stigma of the word xx
