can most women spot fake watches and jewellery?

I was at my club the other night with a pal and we struck up a conversation with a couple of young ladies, when the lady talking to my pal made an excuse and left. Soon after we noticed her talking to someone else, so I asked her friend if something had happened or been said? She laughed and said that her friend had .noticed my pal was wearing a fake watch, and she liked men with real money.
I just laughed back and said well you are still here and she said well I like you and your watch is real and really expensive!

My pal and me laughed about this later as he is actually more successful than me, he just wears a fake sometimes because he has been mugged before.

So what I want to ask is. Can most women spot a fake watch?
