    Default Puzzle #8

    This really happened.

A 20-something woman was at a party, and claimed afterwards that she had been raped.

The man she identified was prosecuted for this. The jury were told one apparently relevant fact about her; one apparently relevant fact was withheld from them on the instructions of the male judge.

The man was acquitted. When told the fact that had been withheld, the faces of the members of the jury indicated that they suddenly realised that they had made a mistake.

    What were the two facts?

The fact that was revealed: the woman had a tattoo on her stomach/abdomen. It seems that much was made of this.

So, what was withheld from the jury?

    Accused was blind?

Why is the information given about the judge being male given, usually all information is relevant in riddles?

No, the accused wasn't blind. The sex of the judge is probably relevant.

Is the fact that you have posted this on an escort web site relevant?

Was the judge able to reveal that the man was booked as a male escort for a hen party?

It could be relevant to escorts, certainly.

    No.

I should have made it clearer that the withheld fact was something about the woman (and no, she wasn't an escort).

It was revealed that she had a tattoo, but something else about her was not revealed.
