As I said, I'd do my best to try and return it to the rightful owner. Be it, putting an ad in the lost and found section of the local newspaper, ad in the shop etc. On the off chance that nobody claimed it, I'd donate it to a charity.

If it was near home/ I thought I might know the owner, I'd try my best to find the owner. If it was away from home, I'd likely pocket it.
I would not hand it over to Gardai, priest or shop, but I would give them my name and number in case somebody reported it missing.

I have a lady in mind already !.

I found a bunch of keys recently , it had a new type Bmw key on it and I thought these must be important to someone , so I rocked of to the guard a station to hand then in . The guard laughed and put them in a big box with about 100 sets of other keys , saying no ever comes looking . So handing in cash is also a waste of time .

if you hand it into gardai and no owner comes forward ( plenty of takes id say) do you get it back if not claimed , you wouldnt get it back if hand it into shop or definately not a priest who would probably use it for there next trip to Amsterdams red light district.

I don't normally watch tv but was at home the other night and saw Miriam's show. Did ye see that poor American guy who came over for a visit to Ireland, spotted someone at risk of downing and dove in to help him out. When he got back his wallet and phone were stolen. I hope that rotten piece off crap that stole from a genuinely decent man gets what's coming to them...

If it was in a wallet I would find the persons address and follow them around incase they dropped more.
