I watched it. It is visually stunning but content wise it is repulsive. The thing is though, it's done that was for a reason, much the same as Haneke did with 'Funny Games'. Or like Gaspar Noe did with 'Irreversible' and 'Enter the Void'. Push it to the extreme and overdose the audience on what they crave to make them see how ridiculous it is, or something along those lines.

Not sure I'd recommend it for the faint hearted
    Incorrect sir.
A serbian film was made to show the way serbs are treated by there government. Not made for shock value far from it, but hey the media strike's again in its view of what the film is really about.

Incorrect? That's a matter of opinion. The 'comment on Serbian society' argument doesn't really hold a lot of water as far as I'm concerned.

From the Critical Reception section of the movie's Wikipedia page ...

"Karina Longworth of the Village Voice penned a very negative review, calling the film "a passionate argument against a no-holds-barred exploration of extreme human sexuality and violence" and referring to the film's supposed commentary on the sad state of post-Milošević Serbian society as "specious lip service." She concludes: "That this film exists at all is a more cogent commentary on the nation's collective trauma than any of the direct statements or potential metaphors contained within."

Alison Willmore: "Movies can use transgressive topics and imagery toward great artistic resonance. They can also just use them for pure shock/novelty/boundary-pushing, which is where I'd group Serbian Film. That it comes from a country that's spent decades deep in violent conflict, civil unrest, corruption and ethnic tensions makes it tempting to read more into the film than I think it actually offers—ultimately, it has as much to say about its country of origin as [Eli Roth's] Hostel does about America, which is a little, but nothing on the scale its title suggests."

But whatever floats your boat. Sir.

Your opinion piqued my 'train wreck about to happen in slow motion' , 'car wreck on side of the road must look' curiosity.

Wish it hadn't. You cannot unsee what you've seen ..

That the youth of their nation is raped by the govt ??

Callousness of society at large ? Opportunism and selfishness to the N-th degree ?

    I don't buy this argument.

It is self serving , superficial gore without deeper meaning or sense .

A brother turning on brother , taking what's dearest -- is that what the commentary is supposed to be about ?

During the Balkan wars I read reports of women being raped and being dismembered at the same time.

When witnesses were asked later to identify who raped , who killed , they were at a loss : was done in the same breath ,

in the same stroke , in the same thrust.

Social commentary ? My ear. Opportunistic , parasitical , making a profit on a sickening film.

In my very humble , very upset opinion.

    Cannot be defended.

    + 1 .

The most poignant moment of the film is the husband putting a gun to all their (the three of their) hearts , and releasing them.

That speaks volumes , and is a commendable , sad , joyful , sickening moment.

But you need not make a monstrosity of a movie , a lurid vulgar obscene spectacle of a production to deliver that point :

Yes , in some instances death is preferable to living with the burden you carry.

This is salacious , morbid , obscene , without warrant vulgarity in its goriness and taboo.

    Imo.

God dam* it ! Wish I hadn't watched.
