    The English Patient ,

    Casablanca ,

    American Beauty ,

    Gladiator ,

... can't think of any more right now .. Except !

Catch the 'Director's Cut' , if you can xx

Right , and : Honey I Shrunk the Kids !

Yep, and not a word used is wasted either.

You wouldn't believe how many times I've watched Once Upon A Time in the West, it verges on an obsession. The music, camera work, pacing, scenery, story, setting, acting ... it's just such a perfect film right to the sorrowful end. Henry Fonda is outstanding too. Speaking of Henry Fonda ... 12 angry men.

I do love Once Upon a Time in America too, James Woods at his finest. I've watched more than one version of that movie, there's a new extended Director's cut as well it would seem

    Jill:*Hey, you're sort of a handsome man!
Cheyenne:*But I'm not the right man. And neither is he.

Harmonica:*Your friends have a high mortality rate Frank.

Frank:*People scare better when they're dyin'.

Cheyenne:*You know Ma'am, when you've killed four, it's easy to make it five.

Harmonica:*I saw three of these dusters a short time ago, they were waiting for a train. Inside the dusters there were three men.
    Cheyenne:*So?
Harmonica:*Inside the men there were three bullets.

    Harmonica:*You brought two too many.

    Harmonica:*I like my water fresh.

Cheyenne:*[of Harmonica] He not only plays. He can shoot too.

Frank:*You paid five thousand dollars for something that belongs to me! [puts down a bunch of dollar bills]
Frank:*Five thousand... [pulls out a silver dollar]
Frank:*Plus one! [puts the dollar on the table]
Frank:*You got a right to make a profit too.

    Cheyenne:*You deserve better.
Jill:*The last man who told me that... is buried out there.

Harmonica:*When you hear a strange sound, drop to the ground.

Cheyenne:*Do you know anything about a guy going around playing the harmonica? He's someone you'd remember. Instead of talking, he plays. And when he better play, he talks.

Cheyenne:*[to Jill] You know what? If I was you, I'd go down there and give those boys a drink. Can't imagine how happy it makes a man to see a woman like you. Just to look at her. And if one of them should pat your behind, just make believe it's nothing. They earned it.

Jill:*What's he waiting for out there? What's he doing?
Cheyenne:*He's whittlin' on a piece of wood. I've got a feeling when he stops whittlin'... Somethin's gonna happen.

Cheyenne:*You know, Jill, you remind me of my mother. She was the biggest whore in Alameda and the finest woman that ever lived. Whoever my father was, for an hour or for a month - he must have been a happy man.

Harmonica:*The reward for this man is 5000 dollars, is that right?
Cheyenne:*Judas was content for 4970 dollars less.
Harmonica:*There were no dollars in them days.
    Cheyenne:*But sons of bitches... yeah.
Oh , set my heart apitter !

once upon a time is arguably the best western, i would say its set in stone. The Good the bad and the ugly and the wild bunch are both great. Shane is also class.

lordy - too many modern films in these list - and too many blockbuster spectacles - where is Hitchcock, Kubrick, the Coen brothers ? Amongst others - so here's my list - The first one is number one - the rest in no particular order and [I] will have to put a little list of others at the end.

Cool Hand Luke - absolute genius -

true grit - the coen brother's best - and best film of the last ten years

on the waterfront - marlon brando's best film - classic

    the sting - so good

butch cassidy and the sundance kid - raindrops keep galling on my head

paths of glory - kubrick and kirk douglas

Rear Window - hitchcock andd James Stewart

Withnail and [I] - genious lines

l.a conidential - amazing ensemble piece

    Chinatown - Nicholson's best

Some of you guys need to watch some films that are more then 20 years old ! Only 5-10 classic films come out every ten years [I]'d say.

I know it's a bit of an old man's cliché at this stage but I wonder the same thing all too often. A lot of the movies I've been watching recently were made before I was born. Having said that, there's still some great movies nowadays, if one doesn't mind dealing with subtitles. So many good movies overlooked by people not being able to read and watch at the same time

My sense of humour has always been a bit dark for what generally makes it to main stream. Bad Santa, The Big Lebowski, Killer Joe, Dr. Strangelove, those kind of movies. Maybe it's the level of thought that goes into it. Or maybe I'm slightly twisted
