    Question Has Your Perception Changed?

    Inspired by a different thread.

I know that my perception of both Clients and Escorts has changed since I actually started to work as an Escort and I am wondering if this is the same for others and how has it changed?

    I'm interested in the following:

Clients perception of clients before seeing Escorts.
Clients perception of clients after becoming a client.

Escorts perception of Escorts before becoming an Escort.
Escorts perception of Escorts now you are an Escort.

Clients perception of Escorts before seeing an Escort.
Clients perception of Escorts after becoming a Client.
Escorts perception of clients before becoming an Escort.
Escorts perception of clients now you are an Escort.

Do perceptions change with first hand experience or stay the same?

I can only speak for myself on this one and I'm assuming you're referring to clients perceptions of escorts in general, rather than an individual escort.

Before my first visit, my perception was very much coloured by the media and various vague stereotypes I had picked up over the years. The reality was completely different, not least the professionalism of the escort experience.

It sounds bizarre and slightly insulting to say it now, but I hadn't been expecting a spotless apartment, soft music and an immaculately dressed lady greeting me with a genuine smile and a warm kiss on arrival. I hadn't expected to be offered a drink and a shower and to be made to feel so relaxed.

Now in fairness that hasn't always been the case -- there have been minor problems and distractions, but nothing remotely serious or worrying, nothing that made me think that any of my original stereotypes or the hysterics of the current abolitionists were in any way justified.

My own perception of escorts themselves is that they are providing a service like many others, a service requiring not only sexual skills, but psychological and organisational skills as well. One thing that has really surprised me is the willingness, in most cases, of escorts to talk openly and honestly about their work and experiences.

I have huge admiration for the ladies I've met, not just for what they've done for me, but for the various challenges and largely unnecessary hassles they face on a daily basis. I'm thinking here particularly of time wasters, the constant need for secrecy and the ridiculous stigma attached to the work.

My own perceptions have changed 100% since I became a client, and it's the fact that so many sex work critics continue to argue from the ignorant position I was in originally that really annoys me. Perception and reality are two different things and there are few subjects where the difference is more pronounced than in sex work.
    2014 in Northern Ireland:

Number of reported attacks on sex workers 70

Number of sex trafficking cases ZERO

    Taken from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perception

According to Alan Saks and Gary Johns, there are three components to perception.[10]

    1. The Perceiver, the person who becomes aware about something and comes to a final understanding. There are 3 factors that can influence his or her perceptions: experience, motivational state and finally emotional state. In different motivational or emotional states, the perceiver will react to or perceive something in different ways. Also in different situations he or she might employ a "perceptual defence" where they tend to "see what they want to see".
    2. The Target. This is the person who is being perceived or judged. "Ambiguity or lack of information about a target leads to a greater need for interpretation and addition."
3.The Situation also greatly influences perceptions because different situations may call for additional information about the target.

I am not a client so I hope this information is useful to you, but from a teenage lad, my perception of the sex industry has always been the same; I have never judged anyone for paying for sex and actually thought (and still think) that it would be more beneficial for the sex industry to be legal. Sex workers could legitimately work as a sex worker and this would eventually reduce social stigma towards the industry, they could work together with security and discretion, pay taxes and there would be more available health services for health checks, counselling, clean needles and medication for drug users and alcoholics, reduce the risk of bad clients because of increased security, etc.

I diverse, however I have never seen a problem with sex workers or clients (before and during my time working here) and feel that this industry is an integrated part of society, whether people chose to accept it or not. People will be doing this during and after Armageddon! No judgement from me; people all have their own set of circumstances, and if there is consent between two adults and each person is happy and benefits from the arrangement, then it is a win:win situation as far as I am concerned.

My perception of escorts changed when I signed up on here.

But once I began to meet escorts I realised that I had been led astray by the media etc. I have met some amazing ladies, people who I would be proud to call my friend. The level of professionalism that I have found within the escort community here would put most professions to shame!
