Thread: The Local and European Elections

  1. Default The Local and European Elections

As we know the local and European elections are coming up shortly. Who are the best candidates to vote for though?

Any parties that have endorsed TOTRL like Labour, Fianna Fail and Sinn Fein should be reminded of this. Also those in Northern Ireland should take note of any DUP and SDLP support for Lord Morrow's bill.

Regarding the European elections unfortunately nearly all of the MEP's in the ROI and NI supported Honeyball. However is there a People Before Profit candidate running that has a more positive attitude to sex work?

Remember this a politicians are only looking to get re elected that's the goal go with the voters. While you might think non for profit might support the campaign how on earth can some one vote for a party that calls itself by that name it's upserd non for profit???? How can an econemy or a business grow without profit??? The country is on its nees and needs profit badly people need money in they're pockets to spend. Surplus cash means spending with means restaurants, shops, businesses make money.

The bill will go through unfortunately we have to adapt as for alternatives to vote for god only knows, profit and margin are everthing to make an enconemy drive forward, disposable income is the key, non for profit is an anti making money statement to the core we are not communists.

If you feel I'm harsh sorry but my point is valid, I can't vote cos I'm not there tbh it will be my first time since I was 18 I didn't, wouldn't know who to vote for cos local politics is a joke anyway how can a local co counciller have any say in government?

Sorry I mean people before profit same thing really

People against profit is a name used by the socialist workers party, which is little more than a Trotskyite cult that wants to bring about a socialist revolution where the wealth will be distributed in such away that no one will be able to afford the little pleasures in life. Think North Korea. Of the candidates that are running (likely to win) only Ming the merciless has been overtly against swede model, but i personally think his brain has been addled from all the dope he has smoked over the years. Then of course Fine Gael hasn't signed up to torl.....

When it comes to the economy PBP certainly would be on the left. Personally I think that both very big government and very small government is bad.

On the issue of sex work however they have been impressive. Joan Collins of PBP deserves great credit in encouraging Dublin City Council to reject TOTRL. That has to be better than MEP's supporting Honeyball and a number of councils in Ireland not standing in the way of TOTRL like the cowered townsfolk in one of these old Westerns.

Of the four biggest parties Fine Gael has been the most reasonable when it comes to the issue of sex work. Some members in the other three parties would probably pass a motion to say that the earth was flat if they were told to by Ruhama and the ICI.

The pro criminalisation brigade should be fought tooth and nail. It is only a matter of time before the general public see through the lies that the TOTRL crowd are trying to tell and the tricks that they are trying to play.

I confronted my local DUP candidate who doorstepped me last week, citing the sex work issue and gay rights. He literally ran away, using the excuse that he only dealt with 'local issues.' Yet he is prepared to represent this party. I'm calling that cowardly.

Sex work is poorly understood and massively propagandised in Ireland, with the result that any large party talking common sense on the issue would risk losing support. There is huge conservatism in Ireland regarding all sexual issues and a vested interest for the church and NGOs to play the hysteria card. A vote for a smaller party with an open mind on the issue may not change the political landscape, but it will make you feel better. I know I will.
    2014 in Northern Ireland:

Number of reported attacks on sex workers 70

Number of sex trafficking cases ZERO
