I'd say happiness is akin to contentment, and for me that simply means enjoying what you have, however or whatever it may be. I lead a happy life but then again I have a ridiculously optimistic streak that means I rarely worry about life and just live it instead.
Some of the least happy people are those who are continually searching for that one thing that will make them happy, as Leigha said happiness lies in the appreciation not continually hunting for the unattainable
