It's hard to believe that someone could make such a ridiculous statement. There is no excuse at all for rape, it's a vicious crime. Anybody convicted of such a crime should be dealt with severely. As for this politician, his political party should dump him, he's not fit for office.

Rape is a very serious crime, but does it deserve death sentence. The difference in the case above is the girl died. Now it's manslaughter. India has a major problem with male attitude toward women's rights and drastically needs a strong message to show this treatment of Women will not be tolerated. But death sentences for rape???

Every case should be treated individually on the severity of the crime, impact on the victim. If it merits it, then yes they should be sentenced to death. My original point was to say that boys make mistakes was a ridiculous statement. Unless they crackdown on rape crimes, they will continue.

The Death sentence isnt for rape, it is for a rape and attack thta was was so sever that the victim died from internal injuries. Personally I think the punishment was justified, especially like somewhere in India, where it is considered ok to rape a girl if she dressed a certain way, where they say the men were overcome with sexual lust they couldnt control themselves (complete and utter bullshit of the highest order ). Showing people that this kind of crime will not be tolerated and that if you damage someone so brutally that they die, it shows the people that there are real consequences.

Anyone making a comment such as "boys make mistakes" after they have rapped a person is totally disgraceful and should not be allow to have anything to do with politics or any other job where he/she would to a figure of any community!

It is comments like this why so many Indian men (not all) think they also have the right to acid a girls face (which is a common practice there too) if a girl has no interest in him.

Sickening comments. Rape is a dreadful crime that the survivor has to live with for the rest of their life.

Castration would be better as the death penalty would be to quick an end for them.

1) There is undoubtedly a cultural issue in India with regards to the treatment of women - I've seen and heard both sides of the coin, I've an indian friend who is an absolute gent and enjoys the company of a lady and treats her as such but I've also heard all to often the brutal nature that some have treated women including working girls. It's harsh to stereotype all men of Indian descent as abusers of women and it makes it more difficult for those genuine guys out there, especially in this environment but stories such as that posted above from a figure in authority do nothing to play down the stereotype unfortunately.

2) Death sentence for rape? Yes, would support it completely if it was beyond all reasonable doubt - proving the latter is where the difficulty lies - regardless, it won't happen in any liberal society so my own views on it don't matter but for my two pence worth, anyone who goes out and intentionally violates/rapes another individual serves no purpose in this world. Save our tax paying money by getting rid of them rather than banging them up.

Let's come home here and suppose a guy is accused of raping a girl here in Ireland. Are you saying that the death sentence should be available to a court of justice?

With a stupid comment like that it's easy to know what low opinion of women that idiot has. I think that castration would be appropriate punishment for a guy who is found guilty of rape. A rapist should have to live with the consequences of their brutal crime and be scared for the rest of their life like a rape victim has to live with the memory of been raped for the rest of their lives!
