What Mulayam Singh Yadav stated was that he feels a blanket sentencing of hanging for rape is wrong, his choice of phrase "boys make mistakes" was unfortunate and irresponsible. But in essence what he was saying rings true. The death penalty should be handed out in the rarest of cases.
I think India needs this. There seems to be a very relaxed view of the value of females over there and rape seems to be a very regular form of abuse, that to date has gone unpunished. This has possibly led to the escalated vile behaviour in this case and if not treated severely, could result in further more severe abuse of women.

I think it is very telling, when a figure of authority says that it is not fair and likens the crime to 'boys making mistakes'. In this instance, they won't be making the same mistake again and let's hope neither will anyone else, now they know what the consequences may be.

I agree. Especially when they bring that view with them over here.
What if "It's Raining Men" and 'Let the bodies hit the floor' are both about the same event but from different perspectives 🤔

Drastic and harsh as it may be , I do think that in India -- where female foetuses are routinely aborted , and currently

    there're only about 800 girls /women for a 1000 men {due to selective abortion and selective infanticide} ,

and men are hard put to find a wife , and young girls are routinely abducted and raped and trafficked

from one region to another , and ostracised , and abused and discarded as a used up thing because of such deeply

ingrained disregard for females -- , mandatory death sentence for rape (proven beyond shadow of doubt ie. gang rape) ,

would do that country's gender equality a world of good >>>

: Let a new generation of boys grow up with the understanding that to hurt a woman / girl is not ok xx

Less than a week ago I watched a special on this very issue : shocking.

I think CNN or Time ? xx
I do what I want. I cannot do otherwise.

What you think about those comments?

I couldn't think of six more people deserving of the death penalty. A steel bar ffs ... really!

I'm not going to look on that site, but finding others that are 'equally' deserving of the death penalty, doesn't mean he is wrong. It just means he hasn't spent his time watching the results of sick people to know about them.
