As someone who wouldn't know cork too well, I was always happier when the appointment was in Mahon for a couple of reasons. Parking was always easy and you don't have to deal with city centre traffic when you wouldn't be too sure where you are going. The luxury side of things were never really an issue for me. I never went to admire the decor.
That's just my tuppence worth as culchie on tour.

As a guy who doesn't own nor ever wishes to own a piece of debt-on-wheels, I'm fine to walk to a lot of different locations to meet the ladies I've been interested in seeing. I've walked for as much as 45 minutes one-way several times to see particular ladies.
That being said, there are other places (in Dublin city) that I've never bothered to go to, even if they are just a short bus journey from city centre. I suppose that when I do arrive in town from out my way, I prefer to WALK to where ever I'm going from there, not to get on yet another form of public transport. The bus always makes me feel nauseated, so extending to an additional bus journey and feeling even worse is hardly the way I'd want to be feeling right before some 'special time' with a lady...
And I also must admit, there are times where I do wish that I had a car, if for no other reason than to get over to some of the other towns here in Co. Kildare that would only be a 10-20 minute journey by car, but for which there are NO DIRECT public transport links to get there; it would be an hour into Dublin, then an hour back out again. But somehow I manage to see (most) of the ladies I like to see, but there's always room for more.

Imo in Dublin it is not so much the actual number of km distance , but rather the psychological distance :
there are very distinct neighborhoods , and if you are comfortable in one , you may not be comfortable in another >>
Though in minutes or miles it may be naught , in mental distance it might be a world apart ..
It's all about what / where you are used to imo .
: Ballsbridge , Temple Bar , Sandyford , Grand Canal , Gasworks , etc . all very distinct , though may not be that very very far apart xx
I do what I want. I cannot do otherwise.
