Will be an interesting race tomorrow at 07.00
Suzuka has some of the toughest corners with a narrow track and limited run-off areas which means mistakes are quickly punished. This combined with Typhoon Phanfone could make racing unpredictable.
Most of the teams are expecting rain on race day and, if it does arrive, it's likely to be torrential and accompanied by high winds. That could lead to delays, safety cars, red flags and a shortened, half-points race.
Mercedes have not used a wet weather set-up, because their two drivers were too busy racing each other. The set-up used in qualifying cannot be changed, even if it is wet.
Red bull however, sixth (Daniel Ricciardo) and ninth (Sebastian Vettel), have compromised their qualifying positions because of a set-up with rain in mind.
In any case, only a wet race, an accident or unreliability can prevent a Mercedes one-two. If they achieve a one-two tomorrow, Mercedes will have won the constructor’s championship.
