Thanks for the link on this Samlad. Excellent opening statement from Lucy Smith and the lady before her from the Sex Workers group. Lucy did a good job of highlighting the Magdalene Laundries link and put her case well. Fair play to both these ladies.

The lady before Lucy would be Teresa Whittaker from the Sex Workers Alliance. Lucy also made a good point that these statements are moderated by the JoC before they are discussed on air

Well worth a look for anyone who hasn't seen it. Lucy and Teresa spoke well throughout and although the Senator (David Norris) was in my opinion obstructed in his questions, he still managed to land a couple of good points regarding the Swedish model.

What exactly is this committee about, I thought We already had one which came to a predetermined outcome exposing as absolute fools all the members on that particular committee at the time!

This particular meeting was regarding domestic and sex violence. Uglymugs.ie and the Sex Workers Alliance were there to focus on the points that there is sex violence towards sex workers, especially given the stigma of their occupation. Lucy made a point that people assume they can do what they want with a sex worker because they are sex workers, and this shouldn't be the case. Teresa Whitaker made an excellent point that sex workers are not allowed to be heard, and this should be regarded as sex abuse too.
