Feel free to bang your head against the wall after reading this link.

Cut and paste job from something Denise Charlton wrote surely.

This man was on the justice committee who's report was dissed by the minister recently.

Rich in cliche and lacking in hard facts.

Mr Shatter said the report lacks proportionality.

e.g. people can get hurt using electricity, let's ban that use?

    Reading now.

Outdoors/ street prostitution is illegal on the current legislation. Hard to prosecute? I don't understand why.. After a fine , yes, the women will be back on the street ..

Coming from poor countries , looking for a better life .... under false promises? Who needs to lie those women when they ask to get out of the country?! Sex work in those countries is not seen as bad as here.

If this people know so much about how pimps operate , move girls around etc , why aren't they in court?

Pimping , forcing women in sex trade is illegal. Play by the law. Perhaps there is not enough intelligence and/or resources ..

How many men were convicted because they had sex with "coerced women" ?

Was watching a video on youtube , where Swedish women were complaining about the prostitution happening on the street. "In the morning we walk the kids at school and there are condoms on the street" "This is unreal , unacceptable" As sex workers are legal in Sweden , nothing the police can do about it.

If the pimps are not making money indoors , they will move outdoors , as it happen in Sweden. Not only that but an independent escort will be pushed outdoors and she will have to seek protection , meaning she will have to pay someone to watch out for her ... like a pimp!

I have just read the above article which dob has posted a link to.

    (Link: http://www.independent.ie/opinion/an...-29872853.html)

    From the Article
    Comment

Women and children are exploited in Ireland's sex industry that has an estimated annual value of €180m and is present in every county, not simply confined to cities.
While exploitation of any kind is despicable (especially if *children are involved), it is worth noting that a considerable amount (if not, an overwhelming majority) of persons working in the Sex Industry in Ireland are doing so of their own free will. Furthermore, the Sex Industry in Ireland (and almost every other Country) is comprised of Men and Transgender (as well as Women), who cater towards opposite gender and same gender clientele.

*Use of the term “children exploited in the Sex Industry” is a term favoured by Deputy Collins and others with a vested interest in the implementation and enactment of Swedish-style Legislation to “muddy the waters” whilst fabricating testimony which they hope will influence State Legislators in this regard.

On average 1,000 women are available for sale on any given day,
If “1000 women are for sale on any given day” is a reference to ladies who advertise on E-I and similar sites, Deputy Collins is displaying ignorance as, yet again he fails (or refuses) to acknowledge that the Sex Industry is comprised of Male Sex Workers and Transgender Sex Workers as well as Female Sex Workers. Furthermore, the persons whom Deputy Collins is referring are not for sale, and their clients do not buy them. If Deputy Collins believes that the Sex Industry is about “allowing yourself to be bought” and “buying another human being”, it speaks volumes about his opinion (and not in a good way) of Independent Sex Workers (and people in general, for that matter).

and the vast majority of them are migrants of poor economic means
I have met a number of ladies through E-I; any ladies I met through E-I lived (or at least worked) in very pleasant surroundings. Some could even afford to take extended vacation periods in exotic locations in addition to living/working in pleasant accommodations.

    and other acute vulnerabilities.
By this comment, I assume Deputy Collins is implying that only persons with “no other options” would work in the Sex Industry. I know of instances where persons (male and female) quit well-paying jobs to work in the Sex Industry.

The "Turn off the Red Light" campaign umbrella group has been strongly advocating a change in the law to make the purchase of sex illegal. This follows the example set by Sweden. In 1999, Sweden introduced legislation that criminalises the purchase of casual sexual services and decriminalises the sellers.
Swedish-style Legislation (as implemented and enacted in Sweden has made life miserable for those whom it supposedly serves to protect [namely Independent Sex Workers]). Norway implemented Swedish-style Legislation and it has had the same catastrophic effect as in Sweden, to the point where the newly appointed Norwegian Government has vowed to eradicate this Legislation within their term.

Formerly about one in eight men in Sweden had at some stage bought sex. Now surveys find it is about one out of 40 men.
In Sweden (where it is illegal to “purchase sex”), men surveyed will hardly admit to “purchasing sex” (a criminal offence under Swedish Law) for fear of incriminating themselves and rendering themselves liable for prosecution.

It is widely seen as shameful and unacceptable to purchase a woman for sex, signalling a significant culture shift in the country.
Is Deputy Collins aware that Sweden has the highest rate of rape in Europe (and the second highest rate of rape in the World).
