    Default Client engagement with police

UglyMugs.ie is currently researching how escort clients in Ireland would like to engage with the police, if clients would indeed like to be able to engage with the police, should, for example, they have a concern about an escort they have met.

Do you think escort clients should be able to report any concerns they have to police? How should this work? Anonymous reporting? Phone, email reporting?

How could clients constructively work with police to combat any potential abuse within the escort industry that clients might become aware of, if indeed you think there are grounds for clients to engage with police here?

Please reply to this thread if you can offer any suggestions, criticisms or feedback.

    Thanks

Its a good idea in theory and could help but whats to stop a disgruntled client making a false report and causing undue hassle for the escort like visits from police or being watched by police which might damage their client base. I know its nit picking but just a thought.

Do you actually believe that the Guards have the resources to mount stakeouts for minor matters. Our politicos may talk big but until the provide the resources that our police force needs then much of what they say or do will not happen even if they pass legislation, who is going to enforce it ?

Thanks Sam. As a client I would definitely like to engage with the appropriate authorities (ie. the Gardai) should I ever come across any girl I feel is coerced or that may have been trafficked.

However, it will have to be in some totally anonymous forum, given the ongoing saga of the proposed criminalization of clients. Clearly if escort clients are criminalized, I would stay as far clear from the authorities.

The problem with total anonymization (if indeed possible?), is that it will, be open to abuse from competing agencies or escorts or even unhappy clients trying to sabotage some escorts business.

Of course it goes without saying I would not want to have any involvement with Ruhama or any other similar group given their well aired views on clients.

This is an important topic Sam, and I would love to hear more on how the ugly mugs platform works. My understanding is that it was for escorts to report abusive clients? I didn't realise that they extend their umbrella to allow clients to report suspected coercion or trafficking.

When this sticky has run it's course could you kindly move it to the Sex work and Media section so that the discussions and suggestions can continue. Thanks.

I recall an incident (long time ago now) police did a presentation about drugs to a parents group.

At the end at the end of the presentation they said that if anyone had suspicions about their sons or daughters taking drugs they would offer advice at the end of the presentation and to come and talk to them.

Some parents did and for their trouble they all got an early visit next morning with a warrant to search their houses for drugs.

Now that was some time ago, probably more worried about public opinion now.

More than just a thought. An escort told me once that that had happened to her. Another escort had reported her anonymously. She said this was common practice in the town she was working.
