    Default SIM Card Legislation Review

I read an interesting article in the print version of the Indo a few days ago which definitely has some relevance to those of us who partake in the type of 'interactions' this website is based around, and finally tracked it down for the online version.

The article is about a young lad who was being systematically bullied at school, and as it turns out, the bully was able to keep at it for so long because he was able to simply buy a new SIM card anonymously, as you're currently allowed to do. The bully was eventually caught out after 10 months and 5 different SIM cards.

The parents of the bullied child have now begun a campaign to make it MANDATORY TO SHOW ID when buying a new SIM card, and a registration record kept of EVERY SIM CARD TO ITS REGISTERED OWNER! Here's a link to the article:

    http://www.independent.ie/irish-news...-29432162.html

    The relevant excerpts are:

"Following the trial, the Langan family immediately began a campaign to change the legislation around the sale of SIM cards.

They want to see a reform in the law which would require anybody buying a card to produce identification, and a record kept of the owner of each SIM. This practice is already in place in a number of countries, including France and Germany.

As a result of their efforts, the Oireachtas report found the Government should examine best practice internationally for the registration of prepaid SIM cards, particularly with a view to preventing their use for "malicious and illegal purposes".

I don't want to be alarmist here, but this is potentially VERY BAD NEWS for us folks around here, both escort and punter alike, if such a thing became law. As so many punters use a 'Punting SIM' for ringing the ladies, of course as an extra measure to protect their privacy and to allow for a certain degree of deniability should it ever become necessary to do so, the mandatory registration and recording of personal details when purchasing a new SIM could take that protection away, at least to some degree. Also, it could affect how the ladies in regards to their protection and privacy as well as how they do business, in that they would also have to produce the same details when purchasing their SIM cards.
Any database that could be created could easily be cross-checked against the numbers listed here in the ladies' advertisements, and the personal registration details linked to the SIM and the number attached to it could be used as evidence and held against both punter and escort.

My advice: Go out and get yourself a spare SIM card NOW, BEFORE any such legislation might pass; at least that way, you can still anonymously purchase a new SIM, and not have the worries which buying one later could cause.

Just a thought on SIM cards and phone numbers, personal experience.
The old people's mobile wasn't working, they hardly ever use it, so I went to the shop to get a new one. Apparently they cancelled the number so I had to get a new number with the new phone. They recycle the numbers. On the SIM card for my mobile Internet, I get regular text messages from social welfare to sign on for the dole, so I assume this is a recycled number.

When this new prostitution law is brought in will all the numbers the gardai have on file for escorts be shut down, going back years even if they have been recycled since? SIM cards aren't just used in phones, they are in mobile Internet, alarm systems and a few other things as well.

    Just a thought
