There was a survey done in the UK by Relate about 5 years ago, 70% of the men interviewed admitted to using escorts at least once if not more, this was obviously a cross section of the community, married/co-habiting & single men interviewed.

No one can put exact figures on the percentage of men who visit escorts or other sex workers.
However, it is most likely that 100% of men think about, or desire to, visit and have sex with a paid sex worker at some stage in their lives.
Some for one reason or another, fear of being caught, lack of funds or just a lack of opportunity may never get to live their dream.
It is this percentage that we need to guess at as it is probably the smaller portion of the male population in this complex equation.

There are approx 60,000 members here..........we can assume they all visit escorts.
Approx 5 guests to each member (just an estimate of the ratio usually on site)
That is approx 300,000 .
So almost 400,000 men have viewed E-I, which is the premier site to visit.
This is about 50% of the adult male population who might be in a financial position to visit escorts.

What other methods of acquiring the necessary information is out there.
Causal searches on the internet...................don't yield much more that E-I and a couple of other sites that seem to cover the same girls, but may be used by a completely set of men.
Magazines................... Since the demise of the "back pages" of the In Dublin there does not seem to be a regular place where escorts can advertise.
Word of mouth.................... most guys keep their mouths shut (when was the last time someone, not aware of your interest in punting, confided in you about escorts)
Sex Shops................... usually offer some Contact Magazine for sale. What are their sales figures? and are they selling them to previous buyers for the upgrading of their contacts.

Also in this equation is the number of girls who provide the service, either escorts or street workers and at any one time. A million men can't all get sex the same day if there are only 1000 girls, so there are complex factors involved here,

How many girls are working? ...................escorts usually advertise but the street walkers are an unknown quantity.
How many punters on average do they service over a given time?
How many punters are repeat punters or first time punters?

Again we can but speculate on all these factors but one thing is certain if the laws changes regarding advertising it will reduce the numbers seeking the services of sex workers but not necessary the number of E-I members who currently visit escort as they will have other means of getting the information.............not quite sure exactly how yet.

I think the number is in the range 5-15%. When discussing this an a forum of like minded individuals on this 'hobby', we may be fooling ourselves that most people think as we do. I gave a brief list of men that would not indulge in an earlier post. While their maybe a curiosity factor, most don't take that step. It's like when the lap dancing clubs started I went in out of curiosity and I assumed they would be packed with customers, but it wasn't like that, more like tumbleweed town really and most of them have closed down.

I think regarding escorts technology web and mobile have brought considerably more clients in over the old days of the street corner and the improved package more attractive foreign women, cosy apartments. Also looser morals in society.

If you're asking the question "How many men will have paid a prostitute at least once in their lives by the time they die" - I'd say 30-35% in Ireland.

There was a thread on the Gentleman's forum on boards.ie a while back asking the question - I think about 25% said yes.

But bear in mind, if you ask a 23 year old guy and he says NO, that doesn't mean he never will, esp since most men seem to do it later in life. If you'd asked me 5 years ago, I would have said NO, and I probably would have said I never will.

Also, most of the surveys aren't done online. They're often face to face. How many men are going to tell the truth even if it's anonymous? I wouldn't.

Alfred Kinsey, the famous sexologist, came up with the figure of 69%. However, that was back in the 40s/ 50s. I'd say it was more common back then, as One Night stands and other forms of casual sex were probably less common and available.

I'd also point out that of my male friends, out of about 15 who I know well, I know that at least 6 of them have been with a prostitute. That is just the ones I know of, and it doesn't mean none of the rest never will (we're all in our late 20s, early 30s).

Then again, maybe all my friends are just pervs...
