Unfortunately as we all know the health service is severely constrained in their resources. And I'm glad to hear you were not badly hurt. A&E always operates in priority of patient need, which means some people have a longer wait. In my unfortunately great experience of hoapitals, the staff on the ground are 99% fantastic, it is the faceless organisation behind the scenes that lets us all down.
And in terms of social economics, we all want to be seen immediately in A&E but don't want to pay for it in our taxes. Simplistic I know because of greed and inefficiencies in the HSE but the point is generally valid, I believe.

A speedy recovery Richie, these trolley issues have been going on for years and even with all the money that has been thrown at health nothing improved and with the cut backs things are getting worse, with the money that is spent on health in this country we should a much better health service and those that are holding it back should have to suffer financialy. On a lighter note isn't it great to see that they are not clock watchers.

Hope you're getting well soon, I am happy it wasn't somehting even more serious.

Yes, A&E is like this, waiting periods of min 8 - 10 hours are something normal, unless the patient is in the most critical condition, thankfully it wasn't your case.
