Oireachtas Committe Method of getting what they want

Request something very extreme, far beyond the actual request you have. Discuss/argue...gov will request something similar but not as harsh, committee gets what it actually wanted.

I'll be interested to see how FG deal with this considering how much they are going against the church in their proposed abortion legislation.

That the accessing of web sites – whether located in the State or abroad – that advertise prostitution in the State should be treated in the same way as accessing sites that advertise or distribute child pornography.
So like all of us, Benson, Charlton, Moran etc would be guilty of some sort of offence? Or would they be exempt from this law?

What bothers me is "the use of an accommodation to be illegal" because thats why I wont tell the police where I am. Make it legal and I will be more than happy to give them my address , in case something happens to be reached quickly. No need to stay outside the apartment , or give me fake references to get to me , that wont work! Less hassle for everyone and we all benefit.

Treating website escort advertising as child pornography is just very very silly. Every person with some sense will laugh at it.
Yes indeed. Another bill that is full of contradictions that does nothing to address the real situation and problems that arise.
Sadly I think it was/and is a foregone conclusion despite the efforts of people who actually know the realities of the industry like Rachel, Steph and the other escorts who tried to have their say.
It makes me despair, that such conservative, lazy thinking again comes to the fore

Oh no HMHD! They are special people! They probably access E-I more than any of us do!! But of course, they'll be exempt! Cause they are the great self styled saviours of escorts! Saving escorts from freedom of choice!

It's a bit like abortion,,,not here,,ignore the fact that 4000 go to England annually
Clients will have to go north for weekends or / and Ryanair will double their flights abroad for weekend breaks

It's all very sad! I'd have assumed the committee would have some imagination.

Instead they've just taken the "Swedish model" and added even more extreme measures.

The minister doesn't really have a choice but to recommend the report and it's suggestions to the Oireachtas. Afterall, he commisioned the review. So regardless of what he thinks, he can't really pick and choose without coming under severe criticism.

Unlike the report on abortion legislation where there are plenty of people on either side of the argument, this will seem to the average individual as reasonable. Afterall, it's saving trafficked women!

I'm all for saving trafficked women, but as most of us know that the majority are doing this by choice for financial reasons. Which is a choice.

Whatever the legislation change, what really matters is what the garda will do. And even then it's down to the courts to convict, and it will be interesting to see what burden of proof wil be required.
