How about if they can actually earn money from prohibition? Might be more palatable than taxation and legalisation for the Government. Take a look at the fines in the link I gave.

Yes, I agree. Make money and be 'moral'. Two birds, one stone.

Thanks for sharing that link Lucy, reposted it in other places:

Interesting facts coming from that link:

    Conclusion:
    · The paying-prohibition law does not work. For the decision makers in Sweden and also in Norway this is a question of Prestige to claim the opposite. That is why the police in Sweden (especially in Stockholm), Norway (especially in Trondheim), but also in Vaasa, Finland (where the head quarter of Swedish speaking socialdemocrat womens alliance is located), has behind the curtains started to use persecution and breaking against the rights of sex workers as a tool in order to be able claim later that the prostitution has diminished, and (falsely) claim it to be the result of the pay-prohibition law.

    And also:
The decision makers know very well (though do not admit) that the pay-prohibition law has formed the markets favourable for pimping. So they have had to shovel lots of money to the police, new posts of Cunt Hunter –polices included, because otherwise the situation would have exploded in the hands.

This comes from second post made on this website:

The real motive of these activities comes from ultra feministic sources; they want to control the male sexuality.
Some decades ago homosexuals hiding in the bushes were persecuted. After that a couple of decades went better, but than started the hunt of men wanting to give money for sexual services. And, finally, has came turn of women who do sex work.

I wouldnt put that up even as a joke, because people like TORL will quote it out of context and use it to further their own cause.

There are organisations in England trying to sue newsagents of harassment by making their employees stock the porno and lads mags on the shelves.
