In all seriousness lets get real here. He is 94. How many people hit that? Its a safe bet he'll be dead from one thing or another soon enough anyway. The way people are talking youd think he was 19.

    Mandela is an interesting one.

The reason he stayed in prison so long is because he would not renounce violence, and the ANC were a terrorist organisation. This has been forgotten and history now says Mandela was a Ghandi like peaceful figure.

Still, when he came out he wanted peace and equality. Most in the ANC (including the murderer Winnie Mandela) wanted a Mugabe style destruction of the whites in South Africa. He would not allow this.

May his final moments be peaceful. Sleep well

True enough Martin he proved himself a statesman for all South Africans he was the voice of reason in the madness that sorounded the anc's rise to power.

Just out of curiosity, Martin, how do you define the term terrorist?

Personally, I think anyone who deliberately kills non-combatants is a terrorist. To put it another way, a terrorist is someone who brutalizes a civilian population so that it will compel its political leaders to change certain policies. However, apart from the admittedly horrific manner in which some elements in the ANC dealt with informers, the ANC's military wing mostly attacked state forces and economic infrastructure. Mandela's ANC had used peaceful means until 1960; all that they achieved was more repression which culminated in the Sharpeville Massacre.

I must say that I find your politics intriguing, Martin. You defend the likes of Bashar al-Assad (and Saddam Hussein?), yet you condemn Nelson Mandela. Hmm...
