David Cameron says he believes in free public healthcare (though he has done much to undermine the NHS) and he supports a limited welfare state. Does that make him a socialist too?

Just like the term "fascist", the term "socialist" has been bandied about so often as to have lost any clear meaning. With respect to the broad definition of socialism, ie., the belief that all capital and all means of production ought to be owned and managed collectively instead of by private individuals, then Barack Obama is clearly not a socialist.

Anyone remember Joe Higgins's ingenious response to Bertie Ahern's claim to be a socialist?
