    Default client interview BBC R4

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/series/ipm

Heard this interesting interview with an octogenarian and, although from London, reflects my own experiences with sex workers here. I am a fair bit younger than the gentleman but can understand where he's coming from.
I think this will only last for thirty days so hear it whilst it's still there, the excerpt only lasts for about 16 minutes but is a good counter to the Justine type interview.
Also, the reason the gent contacted the BBC was because he heard an interview with a disabled man who lost his virginity at a brothel in Spain. His mother, father and uncles helped him attend and the guy was just blown away with the experience. Heard the interview myself on R4 P.M. but don't know where that is as a podcast.

    Excellent interview!

Interviews with clients are few and far between. It's even rarer to hear one who stands up for his own rights and needs. He dealt with the trafficking question well, acknowledging that it exists while being quite assertive that he hasn't seen any evidence in his own experiences.

A very interesting man. I particularly likes how he talks about how much hypocrisy there is regarding sexual needs.
Also, it's interesting that he doesn't fit the stereotype of a client at all. He's well spoken, clearly intelligent and was faithful to his wife for 40 years - not the stereotype of a ,an who just can't keep it in his pants

Got good reaction on twitter regarding the link posted by OP.

Even a reaction from Rachel Moran

I am sure it is hard to see things actually changed and escorts are happy in this job , giving themselves a better life, without pressure ..

There was a young sounding wheelchair guy interviewed by Miriam o'callaghan about visiting escorts this morning on rte radio one. Was in and out of it so didnt get the full story. I guess someone could search and put up the link.

Listened to the interview and by his voice, i think Asta is the same guy that appeared on the Stephen Nolan show withe Laura Lee v Lord Morrow.

The usually mild interview by Miriam but i have to admit that it does irk me when pro-sex worker speaker continually go on air unprepared for the ' men USE prostitutes' line which was mentioned a number of times during the interview.

As most sexworkers would testify , the word 'use' dehumanises the sexworker and robs her of the dignity which she /he themselves are fully entitled to . I don't USE a doctor , nor USE a physio nor USE a dentist but because sex is involved , the seller is now 'being used' .

Why is it when a man and a woman use each other in a one night stand for their respective sexual gratification , then that's acceptable. But if the woman replaces her self-gratification with a fee , then as one texter put it (THAT'S ABUSE - YES IT IS - AND DON'T TELL ITS NOT - CAUSE IT IS - YIP - ALL MEN ARE RAPISTS etc etc).
Its the fact that money crosses palms that makes the sex 'exploitative' in their eyes - again, patronising the woman that she couldn't possibly make the choice of selling sex.

It does irk me when the word 'use' is left unchallenged.

For the record , based on the esvcorts i've met , i'd have no problem with my mother ,sister ,brother or daughter selling sex for a living provided they were comfortable with that choice as the potentially highre financial rewards make such choice a potentially very rational one.Its just the yukky! factor that freaks people out . But yukky! isn't the appropriate standard for stigmatising jobs.
. Would you really love your loved ones any less for that choice of earning money ? If so , then you really are a judgemental parent who puts subjective sensitivities before the happiness of your child.
