I also spent a great deal of my life in and around Dublin 8 and it was cool. But it's a rough area and particularly so if you're visiting as a stranger. That said you need to be aware of your personal safety at all times and visiting any city centre area @ 4 am requires vigilance. I'd like to find out more about this in incident, like was he obviously a punter attracting Attention to himself - though that's no excuse for what happened to him.
There are parts of the city I won't go at night, Dublin 1 for example - only broke that rule once and had an unpleasant incident. If I'm not very familiar with an area I don't go there at night

I think if you are in any area at 4am drunk banging on an escorts door, you are asking for trouble.

I wasn't drunk or out that night, I was just lieing in bed suffering from insomnia so decided to see a familiar escort.

Really sorry to hear that this happened to you, truly dreadful.
However it could have happened outside a bar or takeaway and is probably nothing to do with the fact you were visiting an escort.
Lots of these attacks taking place - look at that guy who ended up dead last year outside a Camden st pub after a fight broke out.

While it is a terrible thing to happen to you, at least it didn't go any further.
    Get well soon x

Waiting around for front doors to be opened is dangerous generally. I always explain to the escort that I will not wait outside the main door or gate.

It's been happening for years on that street. It's connected to George's street and the gay bar! Unfortunately it may have been a gay bashing. I know that sounds prehistoric, but hey it still happens. Sorry to hear about that

I'm 99% better now, it's all good. It's just that the hospital stay, and time and money wasted in the last 2 weeks was a royal pain.

If there's one thing I learned from this experience, it is this. Ring 30 seconds beforehand saying you are walking over, the only problem is this wouldn't have worked as I was looking for this place, not having been there before. I was crossing the street walking over to the front door, phone in hand talking to the lady, and next thing you know in St. Jame's A&E followed by 3 day stay, ct scan, antibiotics, painkillers, hospital bills, nose packing, hematoma drainage, stitches lol you know the lot. If only I had gotten laid instead.

Jesus they really done a job on you It's hard to believe people do such things for no reason, yet it happens all the time.

Good to see your up and about. Only advice I could give is to just forget about it. Put it down to wrong place wrong time, coulda been anyone type of thing.
Reason I say that: I had a friend whom suffered similar, he dwelt on it so much, it changed him for the worst!

So without sounding insensitive "shit happens". chin up

I think I now the apartments you were visiting ! Very dodgy, you have to wait a good while before the lady gets to the door -- I was not happy. The incall was even worse. One of the very few occasions I walked after 2 mins.

I need the escort to sort the access situation so that it works easily. If things become awkward or too unusual, I will and have walked away from the main gate or door.
